TN to IPS

itsmeJae

Does changing your laptop’s tn panel to ips panel changes the color gamut of it?

Or color gamut comes with the software?

*politely asking. Thanks!

Obviously TN's are instant, but they got the angle viewing problem

IPS is better color and can be viewed at all angles but can blurrr when the motion is too much, I havent seen it yet.

thats all I know

But would like to piggy back on your question here

When it doesnt say IPS in PCPartPicker then does it mean its TN?

Well sort of.  You can set the color format through your video card driver.  Usually this is an 8-bit or 10-bit color format, but some panels only do 6-bit processing even if they're being sent 8-bit data if they're trying to cut costs.  A panel worth its salt will do at the very least true 8-bit color processing TN or IPS, but whether it can properly display that range depends on the panel type itself, IPS being much better than TN.

Most people will generically refer to IPS as anything that isn't a TN panel and has better colors.  IPS is actually the trade name for a technology created by LG Display.  Samsung has a similar technology called PLS.  There are also VA, AHVA and IGZO panels, all with their respective companies that created them.  They all have tradeoffs but are all generally better than TN in terms of color.  People often refer to any of these panels as "IPS" although it may not actually be an LG IPS display.

two at 8ms response time and are no ips

the rest just vary from 4ms and are ips

Hard to say.  Generally speaking TN is the only LCD panel type that can achieve 1 ms response times.  IPS generally do 5 ms or worse and VA panels are somewhere in the middle.  It would be more helpful if they just told you the panel type instead of IPS yes or no.  You could always dig up more information by looking up reviews of a monitor you might be interested in, only way of knowing for sure.

More context needs to be provided in order to answer your question.

Are you buying a new laptop, and being offered the option of a TN versus an IPS panel for the display it comes with?

Are you trying to disassemble an existing laptop and swap the physical display panels out?

What is background of your query?

Let’s say disassembling an existing laptop and swapping for newer parts.

Ex. i7700HQ and GTX 1050

with HD Panel.

Switching panel to IPS FHD
