Define R6 and Radiator Support

Hello everyone!

 

I know it's a new release and most of the people didn't have the chance to actually see and test the case, but I was wondering if I can fit a 280mm rad on top in the Definre R6 case. I have a Asus TUF Mark I Z270 board and Dominator Platinums from Corsair. Currently I have a Define C and I'm very pleased with it, the thing is that I can't fit my H115i rad on top (280mm) couse it hits the thermal armour on my motherboard. I watched alot of reviews and I took measurements but I'm still not sure if I can fit that rad. 

 

Does anyone have any ideea?

Lot's of tech channels already had access to use this case and the specifications for the rad support is even on the define r6 product page.

Standard layout: - 120/240/360 mm (max 35 mm motherboard component height) Open layout: - 120/240/360 mm - 140/280/420 mm (max 35 mm motherboard component height)

Dude, I'm not stupid, I know the specs. I know what everybody says. Even my Define C can fit a 280 rad on top, but obviously I can't couse of the thermal armour! Did you read the entire post? lmfao...

Most of the world the case has yet to be sold to the public.But whats wrong with a front mounted aio ?

I want to have 2 140mm fans in the front, the 280rad on top and 1 exhaust so I can have a nice airflow in my case.

I'm wondering the same thing, so I think it's a good question. I have a 360mm and a 240mm radiator that I'm hoping will fit in the R6. I don't care which one goes on top or in the front, but I need to be able to mount the res to the front radiator. It looks like there's enough room in the front no problem, but I'm wondering if the top mount will have room with the Crosshair 6 Hero. I have been waiting for them to put the White TG on pre-order. Hopefully soon and hopefully we will see some more custom loop builds.

With 360 and 240 you ain't gonna run into any problem... I think I will with a 280... This is a pic of a 240 rad into the R6

But front mounting a aio will make no different in air flow and cooling even if its blowing inside the case.Its been tested the max temp it raises the case is a whole 5 degrees  c.

To me this is definitive proof a 280 wont fit unless you use low profile ram, and that doesn't even consider the TUF board, which it's heat sink is one of the tallest, probably as tall as the RAM shown. So, I think it's safe to say it wont fit.

According to EK configurator, it seems that R6 has worse space for radiators than R5.

 

R5 can fit 240x60 at the top and 360x60 at the front (EK XE), but R6 can't and you're stuck with slimmer rads.

Dang....and I was all excited for this case too, as I want to put a 280mm AIO in it, but I bet my TridentZ RAM kit would present the same challenge as pictured in this thread.  That's rather disappointing.

Hi guys,

 

Just to confirm I have made an account. I have successfully mounted an 140MM EKWB CE in the back, 360MM EKWB PE in the TOP, and an 280MM EKWB CE in the front.

Everything just fits, the screws of the 360MM are almost touching the 280MM rad because EKWB uses ball shaped screw heads.

 

But it does work, and it works great!

 

From what I can tell you can even fit another 120MM PE in the bottom, but I didnt do this, so try at your own risk. Looks like plenty of space though.

As a PSU I am using a Corsair RM750x, so that PSU and a 120MM would work!

still waiting on my White TG I pre-ordered at the start of Jan. Newegg finally sent an email and now saying the White may not be available until May 30th. Yikes..... Starting to look at other options like possibly the Corsair Obsidian 500. The waiting game is killing me now. 

 

Anyone else pre-order the White TG and get any other information?

So I've got a related question.  I'm looking to build a new system with this case in the future.  Likely going to go with a corsair AIO watercooler.  Gaming system, some moderate overclocking.  I actually prefer to run stable and quiet rather than shatter benchmarks. 

 

My issue is the fact that I want a quiet build.  I don't want to use the top vent if I don't have to.  Will mounting a radiator (240 or 280) on the front intake and rear exhaust be enough cooling for some moderate overclocking?  

 

Ideally I'd love to mount a rad at the bottom pulling in cool air, a couple front intakes, and then a single exhaust out the back.  Is this even possible?  What are the interior dimensions like?  My PSU is fairly large too at 8". 

 

I'm trying to save money this build so I'm recycling the corsair hx1000 (admittedly overkill) from my old 1366 build, making do with r9 390 (until GPU prices go down, if ever), and opting for a cheap processor for the first time around i3-8350k (likely upgrade that down the road for cheap).  

 

Thanks in advance for your input.  Are there any other cases I should look at for minimalist design, silent operation, and adequate cooling for moderate overclocking?

So it just occurred to me that the tubes on an AIO kit would likely not be long enough to run the distance from the pump on the cpu to the radiator if I stuck it on the bottom.  

 

My quest for perfect case continues.

I got an r6 and a h100iv2 and in the standard layout no way a 280mm version would fit. I had to use the front most mounting holes to make it clear the ram. Also a 360 might be dodgy as when it was in those front mounting holes it couldn’t go further forward that the divider panel.

 

i upgraded and added an extra EK MLC 360 in the front and this definitely required the ‘aternate configuration’ like the one pictured above.

Which ram are you using? I will be using a tridentz rgb on an Asus X299-E gaming and wanted to know if it will fit the EK version of rads. 

Here's the image of the rad thicknesses (will use only the 360 mm ones!) will use 25mm thick fans (vardar)

On this topic, would much radiator would you guys recommend for a 5 gHz+ 8700k paired with a Titan V? 

 

Initially I was thinking 360mm slim up top and thick 280mm on the front with the 140mm rear exhaust and another 120mm or 140mm on the floor as intake to keep positive pressure. 

 

However, if a slim 420 in the top would be enough radiator by itself I would like to do that and keep the front 140's as just intake fans...

All I think is if you are using a Titan V go for the intel extreme edition processors. Titan V is like the highest spec graphics card today, so taking in mind the cost of the Titan V, go for the i9 7980XE. 

 

Anyways I think this question must be asked in another thread!

agree that an 8700k and titanV doesnt sound like a sensible pairing. youve gone for a "best for gaming" CPU with a "best for compute" GPU. honestly, for gaming, stick with the 1080ti...

 

to answer the question tho, i run a 5ghz 8700k and 1080ti off a single EK 360 rad (MLC Phoenix) and the fans barely go above idle! I think the hotest ive ever seen is 60degrees.

The Titan V is about 20-30% higher in gaming performance than a Titan Xp and 1080Ti. Plus I already have two of them.

There was a YT video that came up to my suggestions, he tested a lot of games with a 5ghz a 8700K and a Titan V, they should all play perfectly. I would feel no guilt in pairing that chip with a Titan V, it runs much cooler and has better per-core performance than Skylake-X.

Titan V is highest spec card... not. There is the Quadro GV100, which is specced higher. Personally, I'd go with it instead of getting two Titan Vs (comes for about the same price), but that's another topic.

They're effectively identical for gaming performance - the only differences come from the Quadro GV100 having 32gb HBM rather than the Titan V's gimped 12gb (out of 16gb technically onboard). If you need more than 12gb VRAM then definitely the Quadro would see some gains in gaming, but I've never personally seen that much VRAM in use, though I only have a 3440 x 1440 monitor.
