Nvidia isn't affected. They only updated their drivers to patch against potential CPU side exploits that could take advantage of stuff the GPU driver can do.

It wouldn't make sense for a GPU to be affected, anyhow.

Santa Clara-based chipmaker Nvidia this week admitted that some of its chips are affected by a wide-reaching security flaw impacting rivals Intel Corp, Advanced Micro Devices and ARM Holdings.

In a security note Tuesday, Nvidia said its GeForce, Quadro, NVS, Tesla and GRID chips will need to be patched. Nvidia shares fell more than 1 percent at the opening bell.

The twin security flaws, dubbed Meltdown and Spectre, impact the chips inside millions of smartphones, computers and servers sold within the last five years.

Nvidia says it believes its GPU chips are only susceptible to the Spectre flaw, which theoretically allows hackers to exploit weaknesses in chip design to trick applications into handing over secret information, like passwords and encryption keys.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Now, everyone should go to engadget and give them hell for being a BS news outlet.

Edit: Pretty sure they've removed two of my comments thus far, as they usually do. Eventually they just remove the comments section if there's enough of a negative reaction.

Comment 1(response to aewgf): I wouldn't hold your breath, Engadget will just disable the comments section before they put any effort into researching and fixing an article.

Comment 2(normal comment): Reading this article reassured me that the Engadget staff has no technical knowledge whatsoever. Maybe that's why they've slowly been adding more and more political articles. I'd say shifting to politics is a good thing, but they don't know anything about politics either. Engadget do everyone a favor and shut down your site.
