Is 1440p really that good of an improvement over 1080p? Brutal honestly, please :)

At 1440p, MSAA is not something you need.

Lets say you game at 1080p and you always use 4x MSAA.

1440p is like 1080p with 4x MSAA.

Its worth going 1440 over 1080 anyday. Everything looks better, smaller details / distant players are more detailed.

No not really. Not unless you monitor is bigger than 21.5"

IMO, 24" is the biggest screen i would want 1080p on, everything bigger hurts my eyes because I can count every single Pixel.

so definite answer is: 1440p is totally worth it on 24" or higher.

Though talking about laptops, I find it totally unnecessary to have more than 1080p on that screens. Working on laptops with 1080p allows me to not use scaling and therefore have no issues with it. Though with 1440p or higher, it would get too small with 100% scaling, and everything except 200% scaling produces issues in my experience.

Nope..

You'll see more fine/sharper and crispier image but imo its not a Big improvement although u'll able to tell the difference..

2k monitor has more pixel so buy a lets say 27-30 inch monitor since it has more pixel..the ppi/pixel density its good enough for that size..

Is it worth losing a certain amount of frames (or the same frames but lowered settings) to run 1440p?

It depends on the size of the monitors that are compared.

EDIT: If both are 27" then the difference will be significant.

Depends how many frames you're getting in the first place

60-90 on high-ultra settings (very rarely turning a setting down to medium or off)

1440p 27 is about the same pixel density as a 21.5 1080p Monitor.

I went from a small 21.5 inch 1080p tn to a 27 inch 1440p ips at some point,

the difference was night and day.

~110 PPI seems to be the sweetspot, if youll grab a 27 inch 1080p monitor

you will lose sharpness/see pixel unless you move the monitor back alot.

Going from 1080p to 1440p will decrease you framerate around 40 % if you are gpu bound,

if you us fxaa instead of msaa 4x though the performance hit will be small.

Depends on your current hardware.

I started out with a PG279Q on a single GTX970 and then a 980ti and now waiting for a 1080ti.

Its been working fine for me. A 980ti is basicly a 1070 but ~3-5 fps behind. 980ti/1070 is pretty ideal for 1440p.

Battlefront 2 beta got me around 80-120fps on Ultra at 1440p with the 980Ti.

So if I had a 6700K 16GB DDR4 and a GTX 1070 would it good for me to upgrade to 1440p 144Hz and play at like 60-90fps on high-ultra settings? See I reckon it would be but it might force me to upgrade GPU in the future....

Aliasing is still noticeable at 1440p, so some type of AA is still needed. MSAA is also such an antiquated form of AA that is costly and honestly, doesn't look good compared to newer methods.

I have just upgraded today to a 1440p monitor, and while I wouldn't say the resolution itself was a HUGE bump up, I got a monitor with GSync and 144Hz and I would say the smoother framerate was much better than a standard 1080p 60Hz monitor.

my pc is smilier to yours but mine uses the 7700k @4.8ghz, I use the Acer Predator X34 3440x1440 and its awesome, will pull 100fps most games max settings even some of the demanding ones, I run mine at 100hz and its great more so with the g-sysnc, to me I wouldn't buy another moniter that's more than 27 inches unless its 1440p or more.

For the price of a 1440p g-sysnc moniter that's 27+ inches will not make an huge difference but you will notice it as I did.

Comes down to the moniter size you willing to buy ? and how much money you have lol

All the parts in this part list > https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/RcdvPs that are marked as purchased, I have from my old build and am reusing. Don't ask why I have a 850W PSU because I truly don't know what I was thinking when I bought it. The total comes to $3164.75 AUD. I have $4000+ AUD to spend.
