R7 1700(x) or 7700k

G'Day, i'm going to buy my new PC Parts in about a week. Tho i thought Coffeelake would be announced till now, but apperantly its not out before 2018, and then i'd have to pick a new Motherboard aswell, and so i dont really know how long i have to wait.

So i thought might go for a Ryzen 7 1700 or 1700x, thing is, i tried to find benchmarks for what im playing at but i couldnt find anything relatively new.

I was looking for 3440x1440p Benchmarks with a 1080ti. Oldest one is 4 Months old and 1700 was like 30 fps behind in gta, but since then im sure there were some Driver Updates and a bit more optimisation from what i heard. So is there a newer Benchmark?

I'd go with 3200 mhz ram on both and a Crosshair VI for Ryzen and maximus IX Formula on 7700k.

So Question, go for Ryzen, or wait for Coffeelake, or get a 7700k?

I currently play on a 2009 imac so you know, most games dont run or only on 720p low. So i'd like to upgrade asap.

If the 1700/x is like 10-15 fps behind, and still above 60-70ish, im totally fine with it, just cant find any new Benchmarks. And am unsure.

Wait for coffeelake. prices wil drop and 6 cores at 5GHz (after oc) wil kick ass in games like GTA5.

Since you are only gaming you can get the 1600 and save some money

Im getting a 1080ti, and my budget with monitor is 4k, why would i cheap out on processor?

Games don't benefit with so much cores

But if you want it you can get it

I do know that, but the price difference is like 120-140€, thats not really that much, if you consider you use a cpu for 2-4 years without upgrade.

They will probably introduce it, the specs and the launch will soon follow. Buying an i7-7700K right now is literally like shooting yourself in a foot because the platform is essentially EOL and there is no upgrade path at all (meaning you'd need to change the motherboard too with your next CPU upgrade). Wait for Coffee Lake, or get the R7 1700 if you really want to buy ASAP ;)

You probably got Canon Lake and Coffee Lake mistaken, sure I do want a 8c/16t 10nm mainstream processor by Intel but for now we can settle for the i7 8700k which is probably every thing you need and should be out next week ^^

How did i get Canon Lake and Coffee Lake confused? Im well aware of Ryzen having 8c/16t and 7700k having 4c/8t and 8700k 6c/12t.

Well, thing is, currently the Strix 1080ti has a 80€ Headset for free from Asus, and im buying it all at once. That only lasts till 30th of August, so i dont want to wait longer than that. Thats why i asked if there were any benchmarks for the 1700/x that were recently like within the last 2-4 weeks with preferably 3000+ mhz ram, so i can compare it to the 7700k and see whether or not they are around the same. With around the same i mean like 5-10 fps difference isnt bad as long as that doesnt mean below 60

Well, if you are going to get a 1080ti i would assume that you are going to play on a bigger resolution then 1080p

because everything above 60fps if fine to you i would assume that you are going to play on a 4k resolution. Else a i3 or R3 would be enough for 60fps gaming.

So on my assumption if you are planning to play on a 4k resolution with a 1080ti, u are going to get so hardly bottlenecked by your GPU that there will be literally no difference between a 7700k / 1700x / i5 2500k whats so ever in regards of dipping below 60fps.

Dis true, but if you read instead of assuming, you'd have found that i want to play on 3440x1440p, as stated in mainpost.
