-basically AM4 mobo VRM discussion-

Bleh, its been a minute since looked at the MSI 4+2 setup.  It is 4xHi 8xLo

@KarathKasun

check here.

Asus is 17-18W

MSI B350 in reality around 20W (another minor losses that i dont count)

So they are effectively equivalent.

Yes, i was talking about that. Both shit, both same amount heat. Only Carbon has the heat spread between two mosfets

  • 5 weeks later...

So whats the max theoretical amps this can supply to the CPU? I have one running a 1700 @ 3.9 Ghz 1.35v HWinfo reports the core current at 120A while running Prime95 and the VRM heatsink gets very hot while running prime, its not hot enough to burn my finger though. Most games max out around 70A and average lower

Only 120A.

This is fire hazard what youre running.

You need to do -25A for the SoC.

Check in HWmonitor TMPIN2 after 30 minutes of P95 and post a pic

So its not safe running it at 3.9 GHZ on this board?

I stuck a temp probe on the heatsink and it was hitting almost 100oc! so yeah this board is not good for 8 core overclocking. I reduced the clock to 3.5 @ 2.9 volts and it runs much cooler, thats about the max you can safely get from this board I think. Thanks for help Dave :)

Uses around 80A at those speed much safer for this VRM I think

Yeah, the 80-90A should be the maximum until it starts frying itself.

I will change to X370-F as soon as i sell the B350-F.

Yeah I'm sending this board back and buying a x370, the VRM on these 350 are terrible. I did some further testing this morning and found the surrounding area chokes and caps to be around 130oc! the caps wont last a year at those temps

Yeah.

I'm really happy with the Ryzen CPU though I've been using a I5 Ivybridge for the past 6 years and haven't bought a AMD CPU since the Athlon days, I used AMD chips all though the K62, Athlon, Athlonx2, Barton etc, its good to have a AMD CPU again

If the BIOS support is there.

X370-F looks to have +50% VCore capability.

afaik, the X370-F shares the BIOS development with B350-F (same version numbers, same features and agesa updates released at the same time)

The same kit as i have runs with XMP fully stable for @Jon Jon so yeah, i think its good.

Nah.

Youll be sure that mobo wont blow up, disintegrate your house and kill your CPU.

And have 3.6 times power reserve to the future

How are you measuring the temps?

Try touching the chokes and caps see how hot they are
