/s then run without the fan - that will speed up the "upgrade soon" part by a lot! /s

seriously:

replace the fan - it costs close to nothing.

A stock Intel heatsink-fan combo is like $3-5 and you can probably find them for free from people that use aftermarket cooling.

either get a new fan - clean it again and hope the noice goes magically away or buy a new cheap cooler inclu. heatsink and fan (those things can be had for 25$) or spend a bit mroe and carry it over to your upgrade plan.

if its a bad fan you can get intel or the store to swap it out, you can also get stock coolers for a few bucks if you don't want the hassle.

Without the fan running the cpu will run very hot and clock to about 1/3 of its max performance.

so dumbass me found out that when i moved the pc and put it down it was enough force to knock the stupidly long cpu fan cable out of the corner it was wedged in and thus it was kissing the spinning fan.
