Wannacry ransomware causes Honda plant to shut down

I won't elaborate: As it seems wannacry is still a thing. It's kind of embarrassing that such giant as Honda, can't even secure it's own computer from well known threat. Although loses was not that significant, so they wont affect company anyway.
Here is the source i found: https://www.engadget.com/2017/06/21/wannacry-ransomware-honda-shut-down/

It's a really simple update. I still don't understand how people are letting this happen... The hospital I work at has isolated all it's external E-mails and web access applications, and have patched every single device on the network to fix this. If they can do this, I don't see why a company like Honda can't. It's laughable.

It may be a simple patch, but we don't know how many computers it discovered the infection on,  given they only stopped production for one day and it didn't spread to any other of their other factories/networks, it was likely a less used easily overlooked pc somewhere in the system and the shut down was precautionary (you don't want a millions of dollars worth of stock ruined becasue one welding machine shut down mid process).

Yeah. I'm working at bailiff chancellery. I don't even want to imagine how losing some data(or worse data leakage) could have affected us. Moreover we were unable to update windows due to compatibility issues with certain apps.

Well, i'm watching wan show right now :) Also it's 2:00 am in Poland. So it was just a quick post before wan show started up. It's just a curio, I don't think further elaborating on it would be suitable.

Because the requirements were not met, I moved the thread to General Discussion. In the future, when making posts in the Tech News sub-forum, please ensure they follow the requirements, or the thread may get locked or moved to another sub-forum.
