Asus ROG GL553 vs Lenovo Legion Y520

I'm sorry for being lazy, but I first posted this in SuggestALaptop and I think their questionaire summarizes everything I want to say.

Total budget and country of purchase:

4'100.000 COP (about 1420 USD), Colombia.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Best Specifications for the money

How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don't want to be carrying something heavier than 2.5-2.6 kg and a super thick laptop.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

Windows and maybe some Linux Distributions (Ubuntu/Tails/Kali)

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

15.6''

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Gaming, TensorFlow with GPU, SolidWorks.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Rainbow Six Siege, maybe Dark Souls. I would like to have a machine that can run those maybe in 60-75 fps

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I want something with a good build quality, and a good screen

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

  1. Since I'm from Colombia, the prices can be a little to high for some of you, but between 3'960.000 COP (1360 USD) and 4'100.000 (1420 USD) are the GTX 1050 Nvidia series laptops with 7th gen Core i7 processors.
  2. I have two in mind Asus ROG GL553 or the Lenovo Legion Y520, I know this may sound kinda lame, but I'm inclined to buy the Asus just because all my other classmates have Asus and it comes with a status symbol, but in the other hand the Lenovo has a 1050ti (GL553 has a 1050), also it has a 256GB SSD with a 2TB HDD (GL553 has only a 1TB HDD) and is 100.000 COP cheaper. I don't know if it is cheaper because of the brand or what but I might be one of the fools that think that "if it's expensive it must be better"
  3. One of my turning points is some of the reviews on their displays, Dave Lee's and Matthew Moniz's reviews (since LTT hasn't made any) left me thinking if the screen quality and RGB keyboard are good enough turn factors to go for the ROG leaving behind the SSD, double HDD storage and a little money saving.
  4. I've been searching mainly in Linio.com, an Amazon kinda website here in Colombia, and those are some of the best prices with discounts. I've been also searching in Amazon but with the shipping to Colombia, the budget overflows, also using some services that bring Amazon things to Colombia.
  5. I would really like to dive on some Deep Learning stuff, so I need a powerful machine that can help me with those tasks.
  6. I will begin to research about opinions online from buyers of these laptops to see which one has the more common problems.
  7. This will be my first gaming PC so I think the difference between the screen quality won't be shocking for me, since I'm upgrading from a 14'' Samsung Notebook (2012 NP300E4X).

I know it may seem that it is a clear choice but I want to be sure that I will get the best machine for my money, with the less problems.

I considered the Inspiron some time ago, but these were the points against it:

- The TN panel (although I heard they have been replacing those with IPS in the US, not so sure here in Colombia)

- If I order the Inspiron, it would take between 2 or 3 months to arrive

- Compared to the Legion, the Inspiron has less storage and lacks an SSD.

I think I've made up my mind with the Lenovo, better stuff for my money.

1. wtf It has 128 GB SSD in M.2 (can be upgraded, reccomending samsung 960 pro 500 gb)

2. I completely agree with TN Panel

3. You can always remove ODD and put disk inside like I did with my lenovo z575

4. that long ?!
