Another quick question on Folding

So I already have everything set, did the passkey thingy, aligned my "account" to the LTT team and I left my desktop at home already folding, everything seems right, I just want to know, is this Folding only GPU bond? my GPU is working on the 99% constantly while folding but I see my CPU is not being stressed at all, in fact if I'm not wrong it says on the application it uses only 1 core? I know the i7 7700 is a fairly decent CPU so any way I could have Folding using the full potential of the CPU like it is using the GPU or that's how it's supposed to work?

If i remember/understood correctly, CPU's are much less efficient then GPU's for the calculations they're using. (does it reflect in the ppd measurement? EDIT; it does, 3770k gets estimated 2197 and 480 gets 11630). So if  you want to donate more power, its probably more efficient to add a second GPU, as opposed to using CPU resources.  

 

Also, you can change if your CPU is being used, and if so, how many cores it uses. This can be done with the client controller.

There should be two simultaneous processes listed (GPU0 CPU0) unless moderate folding option was chosen. which i BELIEVE only uses the GPU.

 

i folded for a while on super skookum, and i didn't want to leave it unattended. It was nuts.

It is set to MAX but it is limiting itself to only one thread out of the 8 It has available but like mentioned above maybe forcing it to use more threads won't help out enough to bother...

i donno, if you ask me, more computational power is more computational power. I'd take anything, power be damned.

Electricity is rather cheap in Brazil due to our excessive hydro plants so I'm cool with that and since I have been out of time to game might as well put that TITAN X to some use

Yes, for the power invested, i think its much less efficient.

If you go into the files or F@H, you can find the local client (which doesnt go through the web, and there you can tinker more if you like) 

I think its best to forgo the CPU (unless your folding to heat the room  ), as it means you can fold and use your computer simultaneously, and still have it feel snappy. 

 

I got that for giving some money to LMG when they were moving to their new warehouse, i dont think the badge is still around. Good that badge hunt has gotten you to fold tho

CPU can fold, but compare to GPU, far less efficient.  Though, note, CPUs do different work units compare to the GPUs.

I usually have my GPUs do F@H while I have my CPU do BOINC projects.

 

Now, back in the days of bigadv with F@H.  2P and 4P setups were kings.  Bigadv though is no longer around.

@Ithanul Excuse me, I was meaning to ask something, why is there some people with SOOO much accomplished WU with little points and some people with hell lot of points but few WU's? why is this so inconsistent?

Different WUs give different amount of points.

Also, the faster a WU is done, the higher the quick return bonus is.

This the reason a WU on a different GPU will give different points compare to another GPU.

Even the same GPU at different clock speeds will receive different amount of points.

 

In the case of like say a small GPU, that GPU would have to do far more WUs to equal the amount of points a larger GPU can do on fewer WUs.

Even more so, if a person is folding with a CPU.

 

Kind of the reason back on my home team, I have many WUs done, but new folders easily catch up in points with fewer WUs (I been folding since GTX480s and GTX580s).  There even older folders than me who done more WUs (individuals from the days of bigadv folding).  And, I already passed them on that team.
