Chargeback help

Hello,

I recently got scammed online. A buyer has charged me back, and in a few days the balance will be taken from my bank. My plan is to close my bank account so that can't happen (ie the payment processor can't take back the money).

If I close my bank, will this stop them (the processor) from taking money from my bank and me? I don't want my bank to have to eat it up, I'd feel bad, but I believe if I closed the account, they wouldn't even be able to take it out in the first place.

Is this right?
Thanks... I can't believe I'm posting this on LLT but off topic? :P

You were the seller, sold something to a buyer, and the buyer has charged you back?

Tell us the story please.

Because in Mongolia, that is a hangable offence Acafaca

You need to provide more information if you want us to provide an educated answer. I can make assumptions, but they might not help.

I sold an item on my website (Small business) somebody bought it and pretended they didn't get the actual item, and since our payment processor always listens to the buyer, long story short we got hit with a 2k chargeback. I can't afford to pay it, so I want to close my bank to avoid it.

Did you provide any sort of tracking number as you would be able to prove that it was shipped and received.

They already have it. They claimed they got basically a brick. Believe me, I don't stand a chance... it's the unlucky part of online selling on such platforms. I'll switch to something different. In the meantime, what happens when I close my bank?

well ask them for it back and if it isn't broken then resell it, and it if is broken as long as you have insurance for the shipment ask the shipper to cover the cost.

What do you mean? I just go there and say I don't need it anymore, and they will close it. It shouldn't be hard. The chargeback won't hit my bank for another while (few days)...

Should I ask them to block all transactions? What should I do. I don't really want to get into trouble.

I believe the easiest would be to just outright close it.

Okay, it totally sucks that you got scammed and it is true that most payment processors will heavily side with the consumer and chargebacks can be abused to the point of fraud easily.  That said, if you close your bank account, you are going to entirely burn that bridge with your payment processor.  They will likely send a collection agency after you and might try to SUE you for the money even.  More over, you can bet that that $2000 outstanding debt will go on your credit rating which could interfere with you accessing other financial services in the future, particularly business related services.

You should very seriously weigh your decisions here.

What are the chances stripe will sue me. That sounds very scary o.O I can't afford to loose $2000, I am still a student and that would possibly force me to drop out for a year... How would it affect my credit rating? Wouldn't only stripe know about it? My bank wouldn't know about it right?
