My router used to drop 2.4 Ghz. It ended up being a bug in the firmware. Like @legacy99 said, a firmware update could fix it.

No. You need to do it thru a computer, a computer wired directly to the router. Dont do flashes over wireless.

a lot of times the router GUI with have a section where it will automatically reach out to the website and download its firmware. See if you have that option. Mine actually tells me when I login if there is an update available for firmware.

If you dont know what the login information is, then I would recommend you asking someone who does, like your brother. Otherwise, you can google a guide on your specific router on how to factory reset it and then re-set everything up including the login username/password to adminster the router. As far as the USB thing goes, I would expect you would still need to go get into the GUI of the router to be able to flash it.

Then you will need to do a factory reset on it and reset it up afterwards.
