Nvidia Control Panel not detecting my SLI bridge?

I'm trying to SLI 970's and I have a single prong thingie 100mm Gigabyte SLI bridge trying to sli an EVGA and Asus card.. Nvidia says SLI disabled and for me to connect the SLI-ready graphics cards with an SLI connector.

What should I do, I put the sli bridge on the prong closest to the display output, did I somehow put it on backwards? (The cards are in 1st and 3rd PCIE slot.) and MSI says GPU usage is at 98% and doesnt detect the second card.

Which brand do you have? Some don't work with each other.

Idk how to check them. But isnt that just saying that the EVGA cards will ONLY support EVGA cards?

First, restart the PC.

 

Second, turn off the PC and flip the bridge.

 

Third, check the device manager and see if you see the second card. If you can and 1st and 2nd didn't work. Flash them bios.

No, you can SLI with any 970.

Did that twice.

Their both there. How do I flash a bios?

Depending on the motherboard, you might have to pull the battery. 

 

The bridge can technically be bad. Never a bad idea to try another if you have access.

Damn. Go into the Device Manager.

• right click on the bottom left, windows icon.
• choose Control Panel.
• Then Hardware and sound
• then device manager, top right
• click on the > next to display adaptors
• You should see both cards, see if ones disabled.

Nope, none are disabled.

That's actually a good thing, that's a pain to fix.

 

So at this point it's a bad bridge, bad card, or bad slot. 

 

Do you have GPU-Z? If not install it   https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

 

Then in the right side towards the middle with GPU-Z open you'll see a question mark. Hit that and see if you can run a PCI test in SLI. Make sure you see at least 8 lanes used per card. If not we might have our problem.

I see

GTX 970 (Asus): x16 2.0 @ x16 2.0

GTX 970 (EVGA): x16 2.0 @ x8 1.1

Also, the cards are at different clocks, would that matter?

OK, you need to run at least x8 for SLI to work, see that 1.1 at the end of the EVGA card? That's not good. My guess is the PCI-E slot that car is in doesn't connect through SLI, or is not set to 2.0 in the bios. 

 

Google them manual for your motherboard to confirm, but I bet you have to mover the card to another slot. The manual will say which. Or instruct you on how to properly set the PCI-e version and lane count in the bios.

thats when its running, its running on the third slot and the mobo supports 3way sli.. when its not running and I look at the evga it says running at 8x 2.0

Might be a bad slot. Is the other one too close to the first card?

Hmm, Its pretty close, but it will fit and be just fine there.

Put the EVGA on top if it's a reference, then plug your monitor into the bottom card.
