New Build Running Warm Under Low Workload

Hello everyone,

I recently finished* my first ever build. I'm running an i7 6700k at 4.2gHz, z170A motherboard, 16GB Ram, 1T SSD, Hyper 212 Cooler - all within a CoolerMaster HAF X case (It's like having a min-fridge on my desk). However, I noticed that running what would be my most basic workload (Spotify, Chrome, and Steam open but no games playing) that the cpu was running at 29C, which seemed rather high to me. I'm worried that it is going to run too hot when I start gaming. 

I'm thinking that maybe the CPU cooler isn't sitting properly?

*I'm still saving up for a gtx1070, bigger SSD, and a better monitor than the one I found in the basement. The most "demanding" game that I can run to test is Minecraft or Hearts of Iron.

~Attached is a screenshot while running Spotify, Chrome (several open tabs), Steam open, and Minecraft at the highest settings. I chose these programs since I don't have any really demanding applications installed yet.

What thermal paste are you using?

 

Arctic Silver 5 has a break in period of 200 hours of running with several on off cycles.

29C is not hot... at all... 

 

At load, 90C is where I would put a hard stop and 80 should be the highest you are willing to go. Idle anywhere under 40C is perfectly fine.

As a matter of fact, I ordered Arctic Silver, although I think I used the tube that came with the processor.

Maybe I'm just being a little too cautious; I have never built a computer before and just want to make sure that I did everything right before something goes fatally wrong.

Part of the reason I am nervous is that I accidentally shifted the fan after applying the thermal paste. Perhaps the paste hadn't fully dried yet, but it was several minutes after attaching it to the CPU (I think I was installing the wifi card and had grabbed the fan as stability without thinking). I have been worried that since then that the fan may not be expelling heat properly, or even worse, I may have damaged the CPU in the process.
