[FINISHED March the 8th, 2015] Redefine R4

Razbit

That's the disadvantage of posting a build log all in one post: It has much less time

to gather attention unless it's continually bumped by readers.

And now that AW posted, it might go up a little bit. ;)

Thanks guys!

The reason for writing it all in one post was basically that I copyed it from bit-tech.. A friend told me to post there, but it seems to be a dead forum nowadays.. I got a bunch of readers (25k) and maybe 10 comments in a year. Now I've received 20+ comments and a couple hundred views, so this seems way better community than bit tech. Ill most definitely keep posting here (future projects in smaller parts, so no potatoes will be needed.. :D )

I figured something like that. I considered posting my log on B-T, but the community

is very well established and I just felt a bit too much like an outsider so I didn't end up

going through with it in the end. There is a lot of awesome stuff on there, but from lots

of lurking I just got the impression that it's very difficult to get in as a newcomer (which

is understandable really, considering how long that community has existed and how

much awesomeness has been there over the years).

I can also recommend themodzoo.com. It's not yet very large (so not quite as active as

LTT), but it's run by the guys from MNPCTech and the community is very welcoming and

encouraging, really nice to be there. Plus there are some really hard-core mods on there,

very awesome stuff.

Ha, I also have one of those, although not made in USSR.

I think many people nowadays don't even know how to read a Vernier scale.

And to think it's just so practical. Luckily my physics teacher in high school

was quite insistent we learn how to do this, we had a whole course in

measurement tools (micrometers and other stuff).

The vernier scale is IMO the best tool available for measuring :)

Nice to see the Master Linus himself here! :D

Thanks, Im afraid not. You see, the GPU isn't powerful enough (gaming on triple screen) for my use, so it'll be upgraded ASAP. I'm thinking of a gtx titan or possibly a 780 (ti). Whichever suits my wallet better vs the power on triple screen..

Thank you too, 900d! :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi guys (and gals..? :D )

Just a quick "update" this time. I've been thinking of the window design for the case, and here is my current favorite. Please, comment and make suggestions! I want to hear your opinion on the design before executing :)

Oh, and also my friend Janne the photographer (check his blog!) was taking pics of the case last week, I haven't got the finals yet, but here is a teaser:

I really think my Galaxy SII doesn't really compare with Canon 1Ds Mark II camera.. Oh well..

Thanks for reading!

Hi again,

I got an idea of making a name plate (or two) to the case. Now, they're done :)

Etching aluminum is quite easy:

You mask your piece of aluminum (using laser printer; Google PCB toner transfer for more info), get a jar, a scrap piece of aluminum, salt (NaCl, table salt), water and an old psu. Connect the +12V to the masked piece of alu and 0v to the scrap piece. Fill jar with water, add salt and stir. Put both aluminum pieces to the jar (make sure they're not touching..) and plug in the psu. If all is well, the jar will start to bubble. Wait a few minutes (depending on the size of your creation), plug out the psu and wash the masked al piece. Voilá! (a more detailed guide can be found here: http://www.instructables.com/id/ValveLiTzer-Redux/step6/Etch-the-Aluminum-Plates/ )

Anyway, here's my first try:

fail.jpg.d54ef5695bf0b18a7b0f884578a5b38a.jpg

I wasn't too happy with it (it has some dark spots and scratches on it..), so I had to try again :D

I made two pieces, the top most is the failed, original one:

etched.jpg.40594075e5e9f9da182f4bb9fcc6677a.jpg

The next step is to paint it and then you gotta sand the paint off. Makes sense, right? :D

done.jpg.1725845c4ad4963993c2393360fad502.jpg

Meh, that's it for now, I was thinking of placing one of these to the top-right corner of the front, I'm open for suggestions on the other's placement :)
