GTX 1070 SLI vs GTX 1080 for 3440 x 1440

flameprincess2000

If you already have a 1080, just get another one instead of buying two 1070's... It'll be much better.

I have a GTX 1080, and getting a 3440 x 1440 monitor (Predator x34), and I'm thinking it won't be enough as I like to play a lot of "broken games" by Ubisoft.

Should I go GTX 1070 SLI then?

You're going about that the wrong way.  If you're doing it for cost sakes, then just keep the 1080 and wait until you can afford another.  One 1080 will do you very well at 3440 x 1440 until you can get a second one.  Don't get rid of it in favor of a 1070 SLI.  You might even realize that you don't need a second 1080.

If you play a lot of broken games from Ubisoft then getting SLI is not the greatest idea in the first place.

Jokes aside.

Keep your 1080. SLI has issues and when it won't work you will get even less performance. I don't think it is worth it to swap for two 1070s even if you in theory get way more performance.

What if I can't afford another 1080?

I guess that's true... but my friend has 980 ti sli, which is basically 1070 sli... and all his games run at like 60fps maxed out at 4k

I was thinking SLI wouldn't be better, but Unity scales really well, and Watch_Dogs does get better performance.

Okay. :x

Get the monitor and try it out for a bit with 1 1080. If you aren't satisfied sell it and get 2 1070s

if you have money get 2 1080, this way if SLI is not supported you can still play in 4K

The sick, twisted reality of the world is the games that get the most attention on PC—that is to say, the ones that will run the best—also tend to have the best SLI support. If your plan is to rely on SLI to play broken Ubisoft ports, you're probably gonna have a bad time.

yes it doesn't seem very efficient. most other modern games run well at 4k resolution and ultra settings on my 1070 so i am pleased with it and i don't really feel i need to get a second card. i was played witcher 3 today and it was at about 30-40 frames but its playable. crisis 3 doesn't quite run smoothly at maxed settings/4k but it is really good looking haha
