3pinport  for a fan

You can attach fans to it and control them via a switch on the front panel

Hey everyone,

I got a simple problem, which I require your assistance for. I got the Fractal Design R4 Case and the MSI Z170A-Pro Motherboard. I recently redid my cablemanagement and noticed two tiny black boxes with three pins inside and space for a fourth one. My first guess was, that they belong to the rudimentary fan controll the case comes with. However, I do not have anything that can match this. What are those Cables? Where do I put them? If nessessary, I will provide fotos of both the cables and the motherboard respecively.

Thank you very much for you help.

Best regards,

Markus

From the description it sounds like they are fan controller ports, where you would connect your fans. But yeah, pics would be rad

Good thing you asked, my notes seem to be false, it's 2! pins with room for 3.

Thank you all for your amazingly fast assistance, I now feel really stupid. I couldn't connect any fans to it, because of missing cable length and just assumed it had to be connected to the motherboard.

I see only red and black, no yellow. Not sure if you can controll them that much... Any thoughts on this?

There is a selector switch behind the door of the R4 in the top right corner with 3 settings:

12Volt ( full power)

 7 Volt (medium)

and 5 Volt (quiet).

The fan controller is powered by a 4-pin Molex connector.

You can hook up fans to it, and have quick access control for them.

Red and black are PWR and GND. Yellow would be RPM which fan controllers don't need. Fan hub would have one of headers with connected RPM for monitoring and setting controlling.
