It does mention sp1 being needed (for 7),  so the question I'd ask then is if his installation media includes sp1

That's what I'm thinking at this point.  As 7 has been around forever,  there have been many,  many updates

As far as I know, this tool is meant to download Windows 10....

I don't think it's worth buying a new Windows 7 license now... You might as well buy a Windows 10 license and gain DX12 support as well...

A buddy of mine got me a free new OEM Windows 7 Pro CD key a few weeks before I ordered all my parts.

 

I just ordered an external optical drive and I will try to install it again via optical drive. Plan b is purchase or obtain a new oem window 10 cd key and use the external drive again.

Redding and Kinguin work fine, not many bad experiences have come from that. But yes, it's expensive, but when you think about it - $120 for the thing that powers your system and provides hundreds and thousands of hours of entertainment... worth it IMO when people drop that much on two games these days that one plays for a dozen hours.

That is a good way to think about it. Thanks for that link, wish I had it the first time. I will give my windows 7 pro key one more shot via usb and CD tomorrow. Otherwise, I will just tuck in my shirt and drop a hundred something on Windows 10. I will have to really think about buying a Kenguin key.

I actually think the subreddit for ms software swap has instructions/links for ISOs as well in case the link doesn't work. 

 

I've used reddit and got a bad code once, contacted seller and sent a new code within a few minutes. 

 

Edit: yes it does have additional links. lower on the right side.

I personally have not, as I have been out of the loop a bit since I just got married and work is insanely busy this time of year.
