Is this an okay laptop for gaming and how can I improve framerates in CS:GO?

For a start, I got this laptop for £10 pounds from a friend, Next, I don't know if "Mobile Gaming" is the right forum for laptops, is it for phones and tablets only? (If its not the right place, please move it ASAP! Thanks :) )

Anyway, I brought this laptop for £10 and these are the specs:

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i3 3110M @ 2.40GHz 57 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
6.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Type2 - Board Vendor Name1 VA70_HC (U3E1) 55 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@40Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Acer Incorporated [ALI])
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M (Acer Incorporated [ALI]) 41 °C
ForceWare version: 353.54
SLI Disabled
Storage
465GB Hitachi HTS545050A7E380 (SATA) 34 °C
Optical Drives
Slimtype BD E DS4E1S
Audio
High Definition Audio Device

Is it any good for light gaming?

Another question, is there a way I can improve framerates in the game? I run it at all low settings and get 22 - 60 FPS with an average of 33 FPS, I want better xD I know it wont get as good as my desktop, but I want at least 30 consistently, I am open to any help, but not resolution changes :P because I cant stand the stretching at anything lower than native, launch options, unlikely settings, anything, thanks in advance!

Change your windows power performance to high performance. Update all Drivers.

Given that it's only 10 bucks, it's alright. Only thing you can really do with it to boost framerates is to drop the resolution.

Just to make you feel better, my laptop (a Latitude E4300 with an SP9400 for the CPU and whatever Intel HD it has), musters up a MASSIVE 6FPS in CS:GO at 800x600 lowest settings.

Fun fact: The E4300 from 2009-ish almost qualifies for ultrabook spec, which became a thing in 2011.

besides updating drivers and changing energy profile or power profile to high performance:

Open the Win+X Power User Tasks menu, click/tap on the Power Options icon
Click/tap on the Change plan settings link to the right of the power plan that you want to change the settings, if you want to customize profile, if you don't, just select the high performance one. Beware! this will consume a lot of battery... so...

You can do other thing: close every single app you don't need to be open, go to your control panel which you can find through windows search by writing control panel there and then select system and security then system. on the toolbar on the left you have a link to advanced system settings click there. on the advanced tab, select the performance option and click on the "adjust for best performance" or something like that... windows will turn off every effect, but that will free cpu, gpu and memory also... so, another 3 or 4 fps probably... i think...

It'll run GTA San Andreas just fine :) Btw, SLI or optimus?

  • 2 weeks later...

With the GT 630M, it's a decent enough gaming machine for older and light titles on medium or better settings. More demanding AAA games probably won't run fluently at all, however, AAA games aren't a consideration anyway.
