RedLineGamer

I have a crappy laptop that has a gt 750m, and I wonder if overwatch will run on my laptop at low-med settings.

It's under minimum spec... maybe at 720p or less at all low settings.

I payed overwatch open beta with my HD 4650 Radeon on a Phenom X4 9750 system.  It's under spec.  The frame rates felt ok, but the game had weird funky colors.  Also the performance in this video is nuked because my CPU doesn't get along with xsplit - I only made it to show the funky colors and to show my friend some Tracer gameplay - I suck at Tracer.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

The GT 750m seems pretty weak compared to the GTX460 (the minimum gpu required for over watch) using passmark and futuremark benchmarks as reference. Sorry :(

um well you can't exactly upgrade very easily with a laptop so that's pretty bad for you

that should "get you going" if you want to build something that somewhat resembles a gaming rig.

tossing in an userbenchmark to show how potato the 750m is, just like most mobile chips :P

gta V is probably gonna be on the edge, but with some tuned settings (especially vram heavy ones) you should do just fine.

i actaully had a friend (ignoring cpu bound settings) that ran gta v med-high at 60fps with a 750ti

I decided to make an AMD alternative to your build just because alot of newer games require quad cores or perform way better with one. even if the i3 is a bit of a better performer. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/xmxqkT

the thing is that the i3 is a quadcore with hypertrhead, but that are two beefy little cores.

iirc there's nothing in the amd quadcore thange that'll beat it's performance.

hyperthreaded quad core can actually have negative gaming performance so i gave the alternative. personally though i would go with your build due to a better upgrade path.

even if the process at hand is a worst case scenario on hyperthread i'd call the difference not worth it over the potential of upgrading to an i5 or i7.

also, we're talking a GTX950 here, what could possibly neck a modern cpu on that? xD

I agree with the upgrade potential but some people don't always have the ability to upgrade and hyper threaded dual core may not run a game that requires a quad core. And i agree it's hard to bottleneck a 950. also wrong cpu 880k not 860k. XP http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-6100-vs-AMD-Athlon-X4-880K/3511vsm121029

Yea at 720p all low you should get 30+ fps in Overwatch with the 750m. Not the best but it's playable if you had to hold out on getting a new PC for a bit.

thing is the only thing stopping you from upgrading in the future is buying a dead mobo socket.

the i3 provides "4 threads" to any game that can use them, with varying levels of effectiveness, worst case scenario only being marginally worse than the athlon.

and two years from now, OP may have some extra cash to upgrade his or her system, and instead of needing a new mobo, it's possible to just drop in an i7, that by then is probably available rather cheaply.

I'm actually waiting for zen before i make my next desktop. If it's any good I'll probably get it. if not i'll get a kaby lake.
