So it looks like AMD will be hosting a webinar on May 18th about Polaris! Perhaps we will finally get some real details about it now. As well, hopefully then they will announce the real release date of Polaris. It'll be May 18th at 10 A.M. EST. I'm excited to learn what they have in store as there have been many Polaris rumors flying around but none of them have been confirmed at all.

 

EDIT: I'll be putting all the information (once the event starts) right here! I won't be on during the event but I'll add everything we learn after I can get on :) 

 

Well, we didn't really learn anything. Apparently the only new thing we learned is that AMD won't be restricting the clock speeds for AIB partners' versions of the card, so that the AIBs can trade efficiency for power. At least that means we may see slightly more powerful Polaris cards than normal, which is probably good!

Same. I got the X34 Predator a few months ago, and 3440x1440 just shits on my 980. Makes me very sad.

Either that or some really nice 40" 4k monitor with good colors and contrast and low latency +HDR.

I hope these are targeting 980 Ti performance so we have some market overlap. Either way it's about time to upgrade my Fermi.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

The bit about the AIBs being allowed to run power settings of their own is quite interesting.

Tbh though, I was definitely hoping more :/. I couldn't find any websites with details about the event, so I didn't publish any to the topic. Seeing that the AIB part is the only new part, I edit that to the topic.

This is actually really interesting, if they let AIBs regulate the performance/efficiency we might see many levels

of performance on these cards. Balls to wall dual 8pin oc models with beastly cooling and maybe single fan or passive cooled cards.
