What speakers for $2,000?

johnt

I'm willing to bet that's a CRT front projector. Those things have 3 CRTs (one per primary color), typically with individual lens systems. You adjust convergence to make the images overlap to get a full color picture. :)

No HDMI support, correct?  :P  :D

It's unlikely to have any digital input. :) It may not even have analogue Y/Pb/Pr inputs (It probably has Y/C and Y+C).

Oh.

I think I'll let them keep it :)

I don't feel any need to have a coffee table sized CRT projector.

That's more than it costs to send a car across the country.

Okay I did it.

I ordered an MTM-210c center and two MT-110sr surrounds.

The PSA and Klipsch are not mixing well together.

It's going to be pandemonium.

 me too

Though I have to say the PSA speakers are so crisp and detailed that I have to crank up the volume just so my Klipsch center can keep up. The center is very muffled by comparison. I can understand the lyrics in the background music coming from the mains during dialog scenes (very distracting), and my center is adjusted 5 dB higher than my fronts. It shouldn't be this way!

While the Klipsch don't necessarily distort with higher volumes, the PSAs are in a different realm.

Congrats John! This is turning to be a full system rebuild. :)

Better consider your screen carefully then, the backscatter from light walls will kill your contrast ratio.

I agree. The best compromise would likely be a good high gain screen to reduce light reflection from nearby walls and to offer a lot of intensity (to give the resulting image some punch). The narrower sweet spot from such a screen would somewhat coincide with the narrow sweet spot for his choice of speakers.

Ambient light rejecting screens can also work, especially if the back wall is far (or can be covered with drapes or darkened).

Couldn't you just back the screen with a black cloth to block any reflections?

Or a screen like the Black Diamond 1.4. They're very good. :)

If he will watch with the lights on (and viewing angle isn't a big factor), the Black Diamond 2.7 may even be better.

It looks like a korean custom (I forget which one specifically) anyway, good luck, you have to get into one of the group buys for them, which are generally run on Korean forums, so you either need a really good translator, or you need to learn Korean. Often, they will only sell to people that are actually in Korea.

Also, you can buy one after the group buys, but you will generally end up paying over $1,000 for them... Sometimes even over $3,000, depending on the board.

I believe the surface absorbs incident light while reflecting light that arrives perpendicular to the surface.

As to HOW that is achieved, I dunno, something about moth-eyes, retroreflectivity, etc. Whatever.
