Experiences with non-techies

Just found out my school was crazy enough to buy the cheapest version of iMacs even though they are still more expensive than my gaming pc  Obviosly they must have gotten a deal on them but still a pc would have been a MUCH better option interms of cost...

Lol, My dad does this as well, he is very tech savvy and knows the ins and outs of a computer but refuses to use any other browser other than IE! Do all tech savvy dads function the same way??

So todays experience is with my ICT Teacher. He's the head of IT at my school, and has not a single clue about tech. It takes him five minutes to setup a file path.

I stayed behind after class to ask him if the rest of the class would ever learn something useful - How to install an OS, for instance.

"Sir, forgive me for being rude, but are we ever going to find out something useful. Maybe installing an Operating System?"

"No, it's not in the curriculum, your only being taught software this year and you'll probably not even find this out, even if you take a computing degree at university." No shit Sherlock. People who take computing degrees already know how to install an OS. Also, how dare you suggest that I don't know how to install an OS? I've built more PC's than you've had hot dinners (probably.)

"Also, I think you were being incredibly rude then."

"Sorry if it came out that way, sir."

"I suggest you do some research if you'd like to find out anything useful. Perhaps you could even take some of your free time out and research more about our Dreamweaver lessons." Why would I do that dumbass, Dreamweaver is easy.

So he's probably thinking "Here's another arrogant kid who knows nothing about PC's."

I'm thinking "Please go and jump out the nearest third story window."

Also, a new school rule this year is that we can't have ANY removable media, due to the risk of "viruses." So I brought in a USB Stick with my (3 A4 pages) of homework. He told me that I couldn't use it because it would have malware on. I mean, you made the school security system and you're not confident in it? Scumbag. That being said, I did hack their security within five minutes. I now have the joy of accessing my school account at home, and vice-versa.

Finally, he said that unless I had the homework on his desk tomorrow - In paper form - I would get a detention. Tempted to put the disk on his desk with a piece of paper on top.

Arrogant, teacher non-techies... They're the worst.

@TheMonsterMan8 Wow, I checked out some of their other reasons and I can see they tried but they don't quite get it.

One reason was that a PC version would be made, everyone would pirate it and it would ruin the game.

Now, I see at least two problems with that just off the top of my head;

1) You can pirate games for the console too, therefore it's irrelevant.

2) Pirating a game doesn't make the game bad. It means less money for the (insert correct term here as I'm so confused about who actually loses out on the most money).

I have to say that I think that you shouldn't be allowed to do certain actions until you pass some kind of maturity test. I'm not sure how said test who be created and such but age wouldn't be a factor. I know some really mature 12 year olds and I know some really immature 17 year olds so that's my reasoning with that aspect.

@Wackyalex Am I a mature 12 year old? :3

But yeah, cost for developing GTA V has EASILY been paid off by pre-orders alone. So a million or so people pirating it won't lose them that much revenue, as most of the worlds population will buy the genuine copy.

I suppose you would be considering that I hadn't even thought about your age.

You also seem to be able to use punctuation very well. Kudos for beating the norm!

Punctuation is god. End of.

It probably helps having a whole family who reads a lot as well... Sadly I used to be one of the "wuu2 m8?" guys though... Dark times, dark times/

That poll can be considered a breeding ground of non-techies. They think pc gaming = pirating -.-

I just saw one comment.... "i dont have a pc so they shouldnt have it"

...That's not even non-techie. Called greed.

I got a good one. I kid in his early teens comes to me all water eyed saying his new msi 7870 twin frozr isnt working. he says that the fans go crazy when he turns it on. His parents think its a virus and that he is incompetent at using the pc and installing the gpu. Luckily for them I was in a good mood so i just told them that MSI forced the gpu fan to spin the fan up anti clockwise to remove dust. they were happy and even more happy when i told them that there was no need to pay me. they tipped me £20. I was actually playing war thunder with the kid, i destroyed him of course.

Props to you, most of the jackals that work in your position probably would have said "yes it's a virus, but I can remove it for only $69.99!"

I tried to replace my sound card considering the one I was sold had a constant buzz for the whole time it was powered on, they actually tried convincing me it was my "virus loaded computer" and that I should bring it in for repair.

As you know you don't even have to use "Save As" ever since the program will ask you where to save if you press "Save" and haven't chosen a file path.  :D

'Save As' is still useful to saving as other formats, like PDFs, but then again those that genuinely believe that ctrl+s doesn't work are too stupid to operate acrobat reader anyway.

So the school is literally forcing everyone to buy an ipad

Is that even legal

Tax deductible and added to materials list - not illegal, just bullshit. Happened to me at TAFE.

The only use for my ipad is watching youtube videos while i drop a dump.

I nearly got kicked out of school for hacking into someones computers, opening word 2003 and writing this is a virus. Apparently i broke like three laws.

I was threatened with legal action and sent home for 2 weeks, told I was expelled, then I had to do an entrance interview to get back in.

Why do you ask?

Because I used the default admin account -.- The principals claimed that they had to "fly an a forensic computer specialist interstate to audit the systems and ensure we have not accessed sensitive documents" (Obviously bullshit considering teacher's pay, student's grades and an entire database of addresses and numbers of every student was readily available, and many people got onto porn through the admin account, none of this was ever brought up.)

Don't even know why I went back to school after that anyway, I ended up leaving for an apprenticeship and will never look back.

That's harsh man...

Although according to Cyber Laws you are not allowed to break in to a PC without permission of the administrator. It's stupid no one actually goes to the extent of calling the cops on you unless there is evidence that you tampered with critical files and what not...

They did not need a special forensic investigator to come for such simple things.

The fact this 'expert' found literally nothing that I did that was ACTUALLY bad.(bruteforcers for other peoples accounts , our passwords were just 5 numbers, so easy lol, and a great number of people got onto porn sites because fortiguard doesnt block admins.)

All that came about was I had to admit to things I never did and other students lied about saying I did, and i got a 2 week holiday for some vidya.

The interview to get back in was horseshit though, the most awkward thing ever.

LOL! Why did he come in the first place? He would have known easily that it was nothing major and it's a School and not a bank or something where the break-in would actually be serious. Atleast you got some holidays! Did your parents grill you for it or did they know you were not really doing anything....

FYI the school called the guy down interstate, not the police.

It was a grammar school and they're far too scared of a tarnished image to involve the police in anything.

Basically a very expensive bluff to try and get me and a few friends to admit to things we didn't do (namely admit to exaggerations made by other students.)

They rape your parent's bank accounts yearly anyway, that should pay for it.

I suppose they had reason for the 'investigation' they paid for... considering I may have gained access to student's info, teacher's info, grades, pay-roll, that sort of stuff.

But I know better than that.

Probably find people easier than the police could.
