Need some advice on upgrading some of my PC parts!

dante1526

Need some advice on pc parts upgrades. Built it back in 2017 and haven't upgraded anything since. Thinking of upgrading my CPU and Motherboard cause everything else still seems good to run the latest games? Willing to spend ~ CAD 500 - 600 but flexible. Might upgrade to 1440p 144hz gaming in the near future but don't have the money for a graphic card or monitor upgrade yet

CPU: Intel i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz w/ HYPER 212 EVO cooler

Motherboard: H170 Gaming M3 (Bought the wrong motherboard for an unlocked CPU, I know :/)

Graphics Card: GIGABYTE G1 GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5

RAM: HyperX FURY 16GB (4 x 4GB) @ 2133 MHz

Storage: HyperX Fury 240 GB SSD, 2 TB, and 4 TB Hard Drive

Power Supply: EVGA 650 GQ, 80+ GOLD 650W

Case: NZXT S340

Displays: BENQ XL 2420z 1080p 144hz Monitor + LG 4k Monitor (I do a little bit of photo and video editing)

Are you fine with switching over to AMD? Coz in that case, you can get the budget Ryzen 5 3600, which is a beast of a cpu and a b550 or x570 motherboard too

PLEASE TAG ME SO I CAN SEE YOUR REPLY!

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x  | Motherboard: Asus TUF X570 Plus | RAM: Crucial Ballistix 8gbx2 3600Mhz | GPU: Asus TUF RTX 3080 | PSU: NZXT C850 | Case: Corsair 5000D AF | Cooler: NZXT Kraken Z63 280mm | SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500Gb m.2 ssd + Samsung 860 EVO 1tb ssd | Monitor: LG 49WL95C-W | Peripherals: Logitech G815 + Razer Viper Ultimate + Razer Kraken TE | Audio: Logitech G560

I'd suggest the Ryzen 7 2700x ( cad 300 ish ), ASUS Tuf x570 Motheboard ( cad 200 ish ) and for ram, Corsair Vengeance lpx 3600mhz 2x8gb ( under 95 cad)

Let me know if you want to upgrade to more ram as for your pc, 16gb should do good :)

Also if you are planning on more memory, i would suggest Corsair Vengeance lpx 3200mhz 2x16gb modules ( it comes around cad 150 ), as anything more than 32 gb is obviously overkill.

any reason for the 2700x over 3600?

3600 is the ryzen 5 series whereas the 2700x is the ryzen 7 series, tho it is a generation older, it has 8 cores and 16 threads compared to the 3600's 6cores and 12 threads, and as it is the 'x' version, it has faster speeds, so i would go for the 2700x over the 3600

dude a 3600xt will out perform a 2700x in gaming. yes in streaming, video editing, etc a ryzen 7 series chip should have an edge. but the value is with the 3600xt, in my opinion.

True, depends if @dante1526 wants to run only games, or even some workload

I d say wait for the new ryzen series, then buy the 6 core variant. Probably it will be called ryzen 5 5600, the for it in a b550 mobo, and use your old psu, GPU and RAM. Then if you feel like spending more, come again
