Sony confirms the PS5 will NOT be backwards compatible with PS1, PS2 or PS3 games, will have 99% compatibility with PS4

Once the other publishers see games selling at $70 it will become the new normal for all games this generation. 2K games & EA Games are going to be the ones pushing it (obviously the sports games) but we all know how the AAA gaming industry operates.

Yeah. I mean, realistically that's what a new release should be priced at, if not more, but people hate spending more and as a result they got micro transactions instead, and devs found out how much more money they'll bring in. So now they're here to stay. We'll still see the price of games go up to cover the flop potential, but really, $70 for 100+ hours of content (most decent games, at least ones with MP) is a steal. I don't think, though, that a game you're simply refreshing is worth that. You've already profited once.

Hmm. I wonder if they're decent quality.

I have such a large backlog of PS4 games, the better experience on PS5 alone makes it worth buying it, but I have to admit, getting that 299$ Xbox sounds really tempting. The whole Xbox catalog from the 360 days and some exclusives.

Yeah, plus you get new release games on there as well, I don't think that's happening (or at least not as frequently) with PS.

It's a shame not all the PS accessories will work on the 5 from the 4.

Scuf makes Xbox layout controllers for the PS4, so I am sure they will do something similar for the PS5 at some point.

The one thing I can never live without on PC is backwards compatibility. I don't understand why console gamers put up with it.

I'm having trouble finding a brainlet meme that can explain this, but also not violate the rules of the forums.

Basically, brainlets.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

It's because sony always used custom processors. For PS2 and PS3 backcompat they had to actually add miniature versions of the consoles into the newer gen. Xbox has always been basically a PC and the early games were all built on DirectX which means that porting them to the newer consoles is typically a breeze. The one downside to all this is that sometimes in the porting process something breaks and it's on Microsoft to notice and fix it, but it's not like Sony even offered hardware backcompat on PS4 so I don't think they won that fight.

This. This is exactly why no backwards compatibility for original release PS1, 2 or 3  games should be a surprise to anyone.

Edit: also if you make it work on PS5 you piss off all the ppl on PS4 who bought rereleased title's. I really don't see how this is an issue, there hasn't been backwards compatibility since PS3. People just want to bitch and complain.
