Upgrading ram speed

I'm upgrading my ram in my system. Right now I have 16gbs of 3000mhz cl16 memory from corsair. Do I need to do anything special to install the new ram? Its corsair vengeance lpx 3600mhz, cl 18.

You would have to turn on XMP/XAMP/DOCP on again.

in theory all you gotta do is install and enable XMP. In practice depending on your cpu/mobo combination highly clocked memory might be unstable, so you may have to drop to 3200 CL16, though that only occurs with older Ryzen chips and at this point it's been pretty much ironed out

I have a 2700x in there right now. Would I need to clear cmos or disable xmp for the old ram before I swap it?

should be plug and play but if you run into a no-post situation just clear the cmos and you can reenable it

I dont have a button for cmos. Do I just unplug the battery with the system off and leave it for 20 seconds or so?

that's the go-to option. if you have a clr cmos jumper you can use that as well

@ShadowChaser

Clearing the cmos worked. Thank you!

once you're back in bios turn on docp/xmp and see if your system is stable. If it is you'll be good to go, if it isn't then you might have to downclock your ram slightly.

How do I see if its stable? It booted a couple times but then it posted after I turned xmp on.

generally speaking if you can do what you normally do without crashing, bsods, or freezing it's stable. If you want to be sure you could stress ram with aida64 or p95.
