Looking to upgrade cpu, mobo, cooler and gpu.

This is the cooler I have, it is offset and has a slim front fan so it will be compatible with your RAM, I even put a standard 120mm fan at the front and there is a few mm between it and my RAM. It will perform nearly identically to the DRP4.

That looks decent. I have also found the deepcool assassin iii which has 54mm ram clearance. Or could go for something like the corsair h150i pro.

Those are good options as well, a 360mm AIO is probably overkill, my i7-8700k is cooled with a H100i (240mm) and my temps are great, at the most get a 280mm AIO, otherwise it is an overspend in my opinion.

Yeah I have just looked at my case measurements and although I could fit a 360mm at the front id have to sacrifice my HDD's which is then adding more to the cost. A 240mm AIO is the biggest I can fit in my case Whilst keeping my HDD's. With the air coolers being pretty big I'd struggle to adjust the fans to fit over my ram without touching the side panel, So If I went for one of those air coolers I would be either looking at changing my ram or changing the case. So I'm now leaning towards a 240mm AIO. Have you managed to overclock/What sort of overclock have you got with that cooler?

The Cryorig R1 Universal would not require new RAM or weird fan mounting.

 

My R7 3800x with the Cryorig R1 is not OC'd (no point with 3rd gen Ryzen), it did previously cool my OC'd i7-6700k though, I don't think I saw over 65 degrees C under load, it performs like a 240mm AIO.

 

My i7-8700k with a Corsair H100i is OC'd to 5.1GHz all core at 1.3600V. However I delid the CPU and applied much higher quality thermal paste (liquid metal) on the IHS, and I have the rad as intake with a push-pull fan config in a high airflow case. Other than temp spikes I usually only see 55-65 degrees C even if I game for multiple hours straight. 

 

In my experience good CPU temps are just as affected by a good cooler as a good airflow case + fan setup.

Thanks dude! I ended up getting the noctua nh d15 black edition and new corsair lpx ram. Worked out cheaper since my friend wants to buy my corsair rgb pro ram off me and I'd rather go with an air cooler over a AIO. Do you think the paste that comes with the nh d15 will be sufficient for a decent overclock? Also I got the gigabyte aorus pro z390 motherboard. I am keeping my 1080 for the time being, psu and storage. Not sure what is the best way to go about doing the upgrade on the software side of things as I havent upgraded mobo and cpu with current hardware and storage. I have built a couple of PC's with all new hardware and swapped cases a couple of times so I think I'm fine with that side of it.  

 

Maybe it would be best to create a new topic regarding the software side of the upgrade.

That's a good overclock. I wouldn't be deliding my cpu as have no idea how to do it. I'm hoping to get a stable 4.9/5 ghz. I have corsair sp fans not sure how good they are? Have 3x120mm up front, 1x120mm artic exhaust on the back and 2x140mm up top. I do need to replace the exaust fan as it stops working intermittently, makes a buzzing sound and stops spinning sometimes then works absolutely fine after rebooting.

A Z390 motherboard supports 9th gen CPU's of out the box. So you won't have to do anything, I would just set everything to default in Bios prior to upgrading the CPU and RAM. Otherwise you will have no issues.

An 8700k can easily go to 4.8-4.9GHz, higher if you won the silicon lottery. A 9700k should do 4.9-5.0GHz.

 

SP's are good for cases with chocked front panels. I would just keep the RPM of the top exhaust fans in particular lower than the front intake so you get good airflow through the case.

Wouldn't I have to reinstall windows wipe hard drives etc? that sounds decent! Thanks I will do that.

No, at least I have never done it, I have never had issues either. It is usually recommended when you move your OS drive from one motherboard to another.
