Hello and welcome.

I'd imagine it would differ per game if there is a difference at all.  A 2080 at 1440p might be what levels the field between those two CPU options.

Technically, the 9900K is better (especially 9900KS or 9900KF, KS will boost higher, and KF will likely have higher OC headroom)

However, unless you're playing at higher than 144Hz, this will not make an appreciable difference. Getting 185 vs 175 FPS doesn't matter unless you have a 240Hz+ Monitor.

1440p gaming is likely going to be limited by your GPU anyway. I'd recommend you get a 3700X, and then upgrade in the future if you ever need more performance.

The 3900X is not so good for gaming, in terms of value. A ryzen 7 3700X would deliver the same experience, and you'd get the same upgrade path going forward.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

9900k really only at 1080p with a super high refresh monitor and super high end gpu, mostly.

depends on game, but i would say its not a meaningful amount. Look at 2070s results at 1440p. that will be pretty close.

3900x will have better performance when it comes to tasks other than gaming so i assume that your PC wont only be used for gaming so the 3900x is probably a better buy.  Don't even consider the 3950x over the 3900x because the performance gap in games is negligible and the price is much more.  The 9900 KF is the best cpu for gaming currently and a 2080 should pair nicely with either cpu.  I personally am rocking a 2700x and i have a free rx 570 from a friend to tide me over until the 3080 ti launch.  I think the 3900x is the better choice and i will personally be buying it in the future.

in this https://www.techspot.com/review/1897-ryzen-5-ryzen-9-core-i9-gaming-scaling/  shows that the 9900k and the 3900x doesnt have differences in most games in 1440p

how you say that the  9900 KF is better from 3900x in gaming in 1440p?? when the performance in 1440p  between these 2 is the same/?

The 3600 or 3700X with some decently fast DDR4

gaming performance is the same unless you really need the extra cores past 6.

9900K is likely still a bit faster, but it's likely 10% or less overall.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

If you only game and care about nothing else, then the 9900K is better slightly. I'm on the same boat as you but I'm going with the 3900X because it does everything else better then the 9900K.

Several online American retailers have the 3900X on sale right now.  It's down to $419 USD.

Unless you have an endless supply of money id go 3700x. Its like 250 usd cheaper and doesn't require a beast mobo to run right, which adds to the price. Plus the 9900k requires a beefier cooler, which adds more to the price.

Ive gamed with both at 1440. I saw no difference in performance. U can always upgrade to a ryzen 4000 with the same mobo and sell your 3700x if you arent happy with it. A 4800x or whatever will likely make ip what small difference exists now between the two.

The 3900x is fine its just not "better" than a 3700X for this task.  However it could be better if your doing other things at the same time.  The 9900k is also better of the three but will likely feel nearly the same at 1440p outside of benchmarking.

I currently have the Ryzen 7 3700x and I'm waiting to receive my Ryzen 9 3900x, GPU is 2070 super, 3600mhz RAM. I won't see any improvement really in gaming alone but when I have projects working and discord running and Team Speak plus a game etc etc, I will see an improvement in time. But gaming alone, no difference

Nice. I'm either waiting until next week when I can buy a good x570 board or I'll put it in my b450 Tomahawk Max for little while to see how it does but I should have plenty of airflow with how my system is configured. It's like a shop vac lol

Yeah, you're not waiting until next week lol.

Remember that the CPU can be pulled out of the socket when trying to remove the cooler.  Make sure the thermal paste is warmed up and twist the cooler a little bit.

Lol prolly not ;) but yea dude, I learned that when swapping out a cheap b450m for my tomahawk board. Pulled the CPU straight out of the socket lol smh I looked at the retention arm and it was up afterwards even though I hadn't done it but checked the pins and the were fine lmao
