Bottle neck problem :(

NoiceZ

Hi,

So I got a RTX 2070 graphics card in christmas present and I tought I would get like 400+ fps in all low settings in fortnite, but im only getting like 180 stable fps.

I have:

  • i5 7400
  • RAM: 16 gb HyperX DDR4 Fury
  • a old asus motherboard
  • a old powersupply but it still works fine.
  • Good air cooling system in a h500i case
  • 1240 tb ssd

I think I need to upgrade my processor but idk what I should upgrade to.

Please can someone help me.

I have a budget around 500 dollars.

since used prices for the i7-7700 are terrible, Ryzen is the best option here.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Yea, your cpu is definitely a bottleneck. But before upgrading, ask yourself, is 180fps enough? Do you actually have 180hz+ monitor to view all those frames? There's no point upgrading if you cannot see the benefit.

If you have to upgrade, an MSI b450 board (tomahawk and gaming max are very good) and a R 3600, or a 3700x if you actually wanna do some work like editing vids of blendering. I cannot recommend intel cuz the upgrade path is non existent ATM

better? value wise, yes. Performance wise, Intel has a tiny lead. AMD also has an upgrade path to new processors this year which Intel does not, which I endorse as a much better feature.

his recommendation is spot on. Although for the PSU I'll advise you to wait until you find a banger deal (650w - 800w, gold, $80-$90) cuz buying a higher end psu will give you peace of mind and it will probably last longer and have better warranty. You also will not have to worry about power requirements cuz 99% of the systems will run easily on 600w of power

Ok so if i buy a processor from Ryzen for like 300 dollars would it perform better than a processor for 300 dollars from intel?

I 100% agree with him. Ryzen 4000 will probably beat Intel in performance. The R 4600 be the best gaming cpu for 200 bucks. You'll have a great upgrade path.

well, ryzen will most prolly beat intel with zen 3. and it will be a drop in upgrade with a b450 board, but on intel he'll have to buy a new one.

for $300 from Intel you can't even afford an i7 which has the same amount of cores and threads. You're stuck with a locked i5.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B
