New Build, What PSU Do I Need?

TheGoolian

First ever post apologies if I have done anything incorrectly, and for the waffle if you don't have time just scour the highlighted information and answer from that, thanks!

Since 2015 I have been running this setup primarily for gaming (CSGO, SUPCOM FA, Borderlands 2 etc..), web-surfing and coursework.

CASE: AvP  Mamba ATX Midi

CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-6300

GPU: AMD R7 370

MOBO: ASUS M5A78L-M USB3

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 1600Mhz DDR3 (1x8GB)

SSD: Kingston V300 120GB

HDD: WD Blue 1TB

PSU: EVGA 500B 500W 80+ Bronze

However, having got into computers more I would now like to attempt building my own as this is getting quite outdated. Here is the new (budget-ish less than £700) build I am putting together.

CASE: BeQuiet! Pure Base 500 Black Tempered Glass - which comes with 2x 140mm pure wings 2 fans

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x

GPU: AMD RX 590 (MSI Armor OC 8GB)

MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200Mhz DDR4 (2x8GB)

SSD: WD Black SN750 NVMe 500GB with Heatsink  and if space add used Kingston V300 120GB

HDD: Reused WD Blue 1TB

PSU: *Insert New PSU Here*

Peripherals included in case they draw any power.

Monitor: BenQ Zowie RL2455 24" LED - potential to upgrade to a dual monitor setup in the future

Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2013

Mouse: BenQ Zowie EC2-B

Headset: HyperX Cloud II

Surround Sound Speakers: Edifier E1100 Plus

Will happily take comments and criticisms on my build, though my main question here is would I still be able to use my 5 year old EVGA 500W PS for it. If not I will be grateful for any suggestions thanks again.

500W is plenty and even has some headroom for OC. But dont do crazy LN2 lol. Check or PSU recommendations list and get a B or up from there unit that you can acquire for a nice price and fits what you like ascetics wise.

Also about the build: Get a MSI B450 A Pro Max. Cheaper than the tomahawk but only with a bit less bling and aesthetic stuf mounted to the board. Features and perf are exactly the same. Some say that the A Pro Max VRM cooler is allso a LIIIIITLE bit better

I'd go for a TX550M from Corsair, but a CX550 would be just fine too and is a little more inexpensive.

Also, unless you found some crazy good deal on that RX 590 and you're getting it for really cheap, I'd suggest considering a GTX 1660 Super, as it consumes about 100W less and is also a good bit faster, for about the same price.

TX>CX!!

Idd go with a TXM. That’s nice price/perf and a relatively long warranty to go along with it

are you missing the fact that he has already got a evga PS? which is a better PSU than a CX and equal to the TX?

I really wouldn't call an EVGA 500B equivalent to a Corsair TX.

OP could use the existing PSU, but since it's been in use for 4-5 years and it's not that great of an unit anyway, going for a new TXM wouldn't be a bad decision imo.

Hadn't looked into that Motherboard before thanks for sharing, but to be honest with the open glass panel I would like a little bit of RGB so I would probably keep it.

RX 590 is £175 ($231 USD) and cheapest 1660S is £220 ($290 USD). On its own this upgrade costs too much for me vs performance increase. However, seeing how little power it consumes compared to the 590 I could pay £45-50 more for the 1660S and keep my EVGA 500W supply for sure right? Meaning better performance and cheaper since no need of new PSU.

Just to clarify I only have one PSU - the EVGA 500B 500W 80+ Bronze.

I wouldn't have any worries with a 1660 Super in there. And while it should be able to keep up with the RX 590, considering you will be running a fairly low power Ryzen 2600X, I wouldn't consider that the best option, but that's just my opinion.

Considering the 1660 Super also brings a performance improvement and a newer architecture, plus Nvidia Shadowplay and NVENC (though it depends on the user how useful those might be), I think it would be worth going for that instead.

Exactly what I was looking for and more. Will take the 1660 Super over the RX 590 and keep my original power supply for now.

And as I come into more money later will upgrade my PSU with something from the TX line / use the tier list @Oswin provided. ?
