M.2 Drive not recognised - Compatability?

H4U
Go to solution Solved by minibois,

Are you using the top M.2 or the bottom M.2?
This board + this M.2 (WD Green) will only work if you are using the bottom M.2 slot.

Office PC Im running an Arock A320M Pro4 unfortunetly my old M.2 drive in it died.

So I purchased the Western Digital M.2 2280 to replace it but its not being picked up by Windows Setup (or on the bios).

  • Is there a compatability issue I have missed?
  • It cant be drivers? as not showing up in bios.
  • Bios version im on bios 6.00, cant do 6.10 as CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 2406. Which is raven, i think?.
  • My old M.2 died. Perhaps its fried the M.2 socket somehow.

Would love some help, as I am at a loss.

Why you say that it was fried? If that is the case then propably your slots are destroyed too...

Can you try the older M.2 in another system or the new one too?

If it works in another pc then...maybe the combitability is the least you should care for....

Perhaps I was being dramatic, the old M.2 just stopped working. No smoke or anything.

The Bios update instructions say "do NOT recomend updating the BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge"

Its in the Top One. I did not know their was two M.2 on the motherboard, the bottom is well hidden. I will certainly give this a go! Thank you. Can you point to me how you know this compatability issue? Would like to avoid in future.

The motherboard product page mentions both M.2 slots and what they can and cannot support:

The redline stuff is the most important stuff.

The top slot support M.2 SSD's of the PCIE variety, either at Gen 3 x4 or x2 depending on the CPU, while the bottom slot supports M.2 SSD's of the SATA variety.

I just kinda knew the WD Green is SATA based, but that info can usually be found on the product website too:

(It's often also easy to kinda guess if it's PCIE or SATA, depending on the speeds. SATA caps at ~560MB/s, PCIE can do more. Sometimes the B+M key also gives it away, but both the speed and key are not exclusive to M.2 SATA)
