Opinions over a new monitor

My vote here goes to 1440p 144hz, so long as it doesn't have an absurdly morbid response time.

I find 1440p to be the sweet spot for gaming currently. Higher resolution, but still capable of pushing 120+ depending on your setup. For the times when you dip low, adaptive refresh takes over and helps smooth things out.

Others here will be able to better guide you on a purchase however. Monitors (and monitor technology) are not my forte.

ok, thanks for the response. This is the 144hz 1440p monitor i was referring to: https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/MG278Q

i'm assuming my GTX 980 is powerful enough to run it?

Hello, for Christmas i plan on getting a new monitor for my pc for everything including gaming. Would you buy:

1440p 75hz 1ms monitor or a

1080p 144hz 1ms monitor

1440p 144hz G-SYNC COMPATIBLE

 My pc has a i5 4670k oc 4.4ghz and a GTX 980 oc and i play games like battlefield 4 and GTA V and i currently have a 1080p 60hz 5ms monitor.

Depends entirely on the actual monitor, specs like that cover a very broad number of different monitors. Some specs are very misleading as well, like 'response time' , long story short, ignore it, its not representative of real world performance and cannot be used to compare vs other monitors as it is not specific enough.

Specs alone dont give anywhere near enough details. Thats like buying a 'new' car based purely on a 'basic' spec sheet.

You'll want to find the specific monitors ur interested in, hope there are 'proper' reviews, check the reviews, then make ur decision.

is a good site to search though as it has a good filter tool.

i will add these to the original post but these are the monitors i am referring to. I'm trying to figure out if the $373 monitor is worth the extra money vs the two cheaper options
