Sell 8086k for 9700k?

So I bought an 8086k new back in October of last year. Has served me greatly with my rig so far. Here is my dilemma though. I am about to purchase parts for a custom hardline water cooling loop, and before I make that commitment I wanted to know if I should sell my 8086k in favor of a 9700k. I ask this for 2 reasons. First, the recent vulnerabilities around hyperthreading make me wonder if switching to a 9700k will matter, and second, I have a z390 mobo so getting the latest gen is viable and resale on 8086ks seems stable around $390 so I would lose an arbitrary amount of money.

they are practically the same. so i dont see why you would consider it an upgrade.........

also Zen 2 would probably be the only viable upgrade path.

That is a very good board. Well it's still the same either I9 9900K or zen 2, performance wise I7 is pretty much the same with the same clock speed.

I guess the concerns around hyperthreading being vulnerable made me wonder if getting a 9700k would be worth the ordeal of listing the 8086k on eBay etc etc

Gotcha. Will wait till Computex and see if I am gonna wait to buy my water cooling stuff in favor of making the switch to AMD.

Truthfully, people that are exploiting that likely wont go after the individual person... I wouldnt worry to much about the HT issues. They want to go after the big fish they can make money on.. they likely wont get money off the small person here and there.

No, that makes no sense.

If you want to buy something more safe, why not look for Zen2, wich is talked about next monday.

AMD CPUs are less affected by the Spectre/Meltdown style Attacks so far.

nvm you actually bought an 8086k, we all get it

Haha I honestly just bought it since I was comfortable with Intel and the 9700k was back ordered to hell at launch and my local Microcenter had a bunch of 8086ks.

You are right. I will be holding off on buying my watercooling loop stuff till Zen 2 is announced. Since rumors are putting the higher end stuff at sub $600 pricing.

i'm actually more worried about the bandaid patches to fix the problem than ZombieLoad itself, i'm waiting to see how much slower it is first.

Sadly bandaid fixes are all you will get since it requires changes at the architecture level to properly fix.
