I need help with Nintendo DS game repair

Hi, new to forum so sorry if only PC and tech related stuff are allowed but anyway, i have this DS game and a black part came off of it, i'm not familiar with what you'd call it, would it be possible to solder it back on there? what does it do? been posting on various sites with no replies so far but if you know any places that could help i'd appreciate it.

If you have the right equipment for sautering surface mount components which I'm guessing you don't, and that's assuming it didn't rip anything off the board and only the sauter broke. I can't find a datasheet for that component but it's probably a memory controller or something like that.

All I could find at the moment is this https://dsibrew.org/wiki/Card_hardware

https://gbatemp.net/threads/preserving-and-repairing-of-ds-games-pokemon-distrubion-cards.475540/ <-- Topic about Preserving and repair (You seem to have a different card)

https://files.darkfader.net//ds/files/cartridge.txt Something else

Can't find much on this topic. I hope you find this somewhat useful.

In theory yes, you could resolder it, but it's possible there's more damage on the board than what you can see with the naked eye.

If the metal still makes contact when you put the chip on, try taping it on and checking if the game works at all. If it does, you may be able to get the job done with a little hot glue.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

  • 2 weeks later...

It would be a really tricky soldering job, and I've never heard of someone putting a DS cart back together without glue and it looking rubbish. Unless it is a really rare game, I'd call it dead and bin it.
