Core i5 4th gen or core i3 8th gen

Usecase?

 

 

I would go for the 8th gen. Or go for ryzen 2400 G instead. 4 core 8 theards with better future proofing


Main PC:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700X | RAM:G Skill TridentZ RGB 2666 mhz (16Gb) 

Mobo:X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING | GPU: MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z

Case: Old Zalman Z11 Neo with NZXT hue+ | Storage: 128 GB ssd 1 Tb WD blue

Powersupply: Be Quiet straight Power 10 500 watt

 

 

Laptop:

CPU: Core I7 7700HQ | RAM: Samsung 2400 mhz (2x8  GB standard ram)

GPU: GTX 1050 2 GB (I sometimes this for gaming on the go)

Storage: 128 GB M.2 SSD from Kingston and a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

None of them are good buys for anyone or any use case.  They will all need to be replaced sooner than later.  I wouldn't get anything below an i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 2600x.

I5 8400 is a dead end plattform. And OP never came back to us for what he wanted. If he was looking for something cheap then perhaps a r5 1600 would have been the right Choice.
