Need help connecting my Optical drive

natarle

Hi,

I need help with this optical drive, I bought it on Amazon and at the time there was no picture show the back of the drive and from what I can find it an IDE/APATI connector. I'm trying to find a way to connect to my Mini ITX motherboard for my Silverstone FTz01 case, is there something I can do to be able to connect it. I use an optical drive to watch DVD movies.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Amazon the seller at the time didn't put a picture of the back of the optical drive so when I bought and it arrived a month later I was surprised by the connection in the back.

It's just an ide slim drive. To hook it up buy an ide optical drive enclosure. If you want to install it internally use the board from the enclosure and use an adapter to plug into one of the usb 2.0 headers.

Honestly it's cheaper to just buy a new sata drive though. Around here you can get a sata slim drive with enclosure for 12 usd. A slim sata to sata adapter runs 3-4 usd to install internally.

Unfortunately, I need an internal Slim slot-in optical drive for my case, and they are hard to find, even Amazon only have one at 240cad,

and Amazon doesn't allow me to buy one on the US Amazon site that that even after exchange would be 60%cheaper.

They're pretty easy to find off ebay for under 20 bucks. Several laptop models used them. Check ebay.

Also shouldnt matter if it is slot load or not. So long as it is SATA and 9.5 mm tall. Make sure you order one with it's own faceplate.

That makes more sense after seeing the picture. Even a decent slot loading 9.5mm dvd drive runs around 25 bucks on ebay give or take just make sure you get a sata one.

Personally I just have a small pile of drives from doing laptop and server repairs. Most of mine are 12 mm though.

I do know that I can find some 9.5 slim slot load drive, but they say that they are for laptop or for Map, or that company laptop only, and I don't know if it will work with my computer, and I don't want to spend 80 to 100$cad just to find out that they don't work.
