Do I need 144hz?

I'm planning on upgrading my set up and am deciding on whether to get a 35" Ultrawide at 100hz or a 27" at 144hz.  I don't play any multiplayer or esports titles and mainly stick to RPGs and RTS titles (Warhammer Total War 2, Witcher 3 etc.) and just wanting some opinions on whether or not I would benefit from having a high refresh rate.

Given how nVidia supports FreeSync now why not just a 3440x1440p 34' ultrawide by LG? they have a lot of 75hz Freesync ones that are almost half the price of a GSync 100hz ultrawide by Acer/ASUS.

100hz is still better than 60hz. IIRC most people notice the difference between 60 and 90 a lot more than 90 to 144.

If you play non competitive or fast paced titles then high refresh rates are not as pretty as high resolutions and good color.

For your situation nah the ultra wide would suite better.

For non-FPS game, 100hz is already enough, but 144hz is still a plus. I personally don't like gaming on ultrawide, so I'll stick to 27" 144hz.

 I don't play any multiplayer or esports titles as well but because of all the hype I bought a 1440 144hz monitor last Black Friday.  I used it for a while but I went back to a 60hz 4k monitor.

I have a 1440 21:9 60hz monitor and I would not replace it with my 1440p 16:9 144hz monitor. I would replace it with a higher refresh rate ultra wide monitor.

 

When I bought my ultra wide I had the same specs as you do so I know you will have no problem running one.
