I am an iphone person.... but depending where you live, craigslist iphone 6s? Great phone, plenty fast, great camera, battery can be replaced "easily" when it takes a dump on ya, touch ID works well, and its an iphone, so it sorta just works.

 

If your an android user, maybe you can find a pixel 2 for about 250 which would be a great option as well.

Pixel 2 from Amazon or eBay is a great option, I have one myself. It has a last gen snapdragon 835 processor (current being 845) that stands up really well today. 

I have one myself, I strongly recommend dropping the extra $25 on a dBrand skin as the back plastic scratches really easily. 

 

I got mine damaged for $125 and it was $90 for a screen replacement.

xiaomi pocophone f1,  I bought it for my gf and for 300$ has the best specs and its worth every cent. The screen is awesome and spec wise you cant complain, only con is the plastic frame but dude, what a phone

You could buy a used fair condition s8 or s8+ in sites like swappa for around 200-250. Have a look dude, that or save up some more dollars for a poco-phone F1 as it truly is a good phone
