ASUS FX SERIES ; IS A FRAUD?

I'm writing because now asus really done it! They sell me a laptop with i5 8300H and gtx1060 , but first time i played rainbow six on it i immediately realize that was a bottleneck and also while playing other games, after several test with a couple of friend and with this forum threads help also we realized that there is a lock in the cpu wattage: it requires 45W but in game the laptop lock it at 25 ,if you get the 45W from the cpu in-game the gpu Mhz instantly goes down. Then I spend my money just to have a lot of problem. i can't play some games fluidly with a 8Th generation i5 and a gtx 1060. I also spend all of my money then i wanna write here to not buy this series of laptop, is really a fraud. I tried it all so i gave up.

Are you playing on battery? Try it while plugged into a charger, and click the battery icon and slide the slider all the way to Best Performance.

The cpu has a 45w TDP and can set to 35w TDP by manufacturer of laptop (sometimes you can play with that option in BIOS)

 

Either you have a lower power brick (power adapter) and you need a higher wattage power brick to keep both gtx1060 and that cpu powered at maximum which is unlikely, or more likely the cooling solution is not designed to handle heat produced by both cpu and gpu at max percentage.

Maybe see if you can boost the fans to "way too noisy" from bios or through software Asus gives you. Check the bios for thermal throttling options, quiet vs performance etc

Check power profiles in the control panel, it may be set by default to "Balanced" instead of high performance, when running with power adapter. There's separate power profiles for battery and power adapter.

 

I doubt they lied to you about it, more likely you didn't pay attention to the specifications if there is indeed such a feature. And the 25w number is kinda odd, it should be 35w... 25w is way too low.

 

Maybe put a 120 fan by the laptop's vents to suck air out or blow colder air over the fins.

Your Power Plan in Windows 10, plus plugging it in as @Shiv78 said may help you

Edit your power plan in Windows 10, set it to high performance, and observe what happens. Also, download Intel XTU and decrase your voltage a bit (for slightly high clocks).

This is not a fraud, just agressive battery management/power plan, not rare for a laptop.

Also, AFAIK, Asus doesn't sell directly to customers, so they didn't sell this to you, you went to a store or online and bought it there.

If you're unsatisfied and editing power plan didn't help, return it to said store and get your money back.

yes guys power plan is on maximum performance and i stay plugged when i play games that's obvoiusly. i tried it all to change the wattage in every way XTU,TS, the funny thing is that i got 45w sometimes but when i play games i get just 25w on cpu.

you can bring power to the gpu or to the cpu not to both.

yes man i will do this but don't say it is normal, i've seen a lot of laptop and never see something like this... this is not a power plan management problem, this is a bug unfixed by productor. this is a computer for gaming then you have to say that you are selling a i5 that works worst than an i3; you have to say that you are sellin a 1060 that will work like a 1050. this is the fraud for me.

Can i change The power brick to get better performance ?

Contact ASUS or your retailer for a replacement.

The 25W TDP is a well-known issue in FX504. Asus try to cheat so that it can keep temps down by aggressive throttling because they put in a bad cooling design inside

 

Next time ask for recommendations before purchasing any laptop
