Orthodoctus reacted to Toasted Waffles in HELP! Tried to download aimbot - messed up laptop
Guys I'm not saying this guy does not deserve this for downloading the most elite cheater tool in history, however this is Linus Tech Tips we should be helping him fix his computer then yell at him for cheating. This forum should be a friendly site where people can come for help no matter how stupid people are no matter how smart people are and no matter who they are even cheaters. I think @Linus or @Slick would be very upset at seeing some of these comments on this page.
Solution
Download a free anti-virus or a trial of a good paid software and see if it gets rid of it. (I use ESET, you can get a free trail of the full software)
If that does not work
Restore windows to vanillia
Moral -
Never download any cheats, use your own personal skill to do good. Cheats do not help they only get your banned.

Orthodoctus got a reaction from Nico1533 in Computer freeze
I see. I can't think of anything aside the motherboard, but I can't ask you to change it just like that. Did you perform all the last set of steps I listed? Especially the operating system related ones, and did you perform a clean boot before?

Orthodoctus got a reaction from paolocanlas in Ps3 hard drive corrupted, need help recovering save data need help bad
Put a new HDD in the PS3 and let it format it. Clone (sector by sector) your original HDD using something like HDClone to the new HDD (don't reformat the new HDD). Put the new HDD in the PS3 and see if it'll be recognizable. I read that this will work, but the PS3 will show incorrect free capacity because of the sector by sector cloning. So, in order to fix that, you might try and back up the new HDD on an external storage, let the PS3 format the new HDD again, and then use the restore option and see how it goes.

Orthodoctus got a reaction from Vitalius in Disaster Proofing Routine
That's a nice setup, but too beefy for me. I took a glance over AOMEI and I think I should give it a try. I hate re-installing everything really (games and otherwise) from fetching them (my connection isn't that fast) to the required restart after some installations.
The boot drive cloning takes care of that.

Orthodoctus reacted to Aniallation in A first timer needs help !
ahaha I just read through all the replies. I'm pretty sure they're talking about a passive VGA to HDMI adapter, which doesn't exist.

Orthodoctus got a reaction from Aniallation in A first timer needs help !
This should've been the very first reply instead of adapter suggestions (that will not work) to a nonexistent scenario.

Orthodoctus reacted to Ribozyme in PSU's & finding the right one
New builds with a single GPU really need no more than 500 watts. Here take a look at this link, recommended PSU's for every watt level. http://www.overclock.net/t/183810/faq-recommended-power-supplies
We need manufacturers to focus more on the 300-500watt range especially as power consumption will go down considerabily in the coming years. Apart from the crossfire/SLI guys no one needs these 600-1000watt monsters. And those guys are in the minority so I don't understand why most of the quality units have such a high wattage! Lots of power is spilled by this globally cause a 800watt monster has terrible efficiency when it is idling at say 50-100watt with modern hardware. We need some proper power consumption education around the techforums so good initiative OP!

Orthodoctus reacted to Syntaxvgm in <Program>.exe stopped working
Well, later we'll see if it could be a hardware problem. But it's likely not. You may eventually have to try a clean install . For now, open command prompt as admin and try
sfc /scannow And well see where this gets us.

Orthodoctus got a reaction from Nafanya in MP3 tags not showing in Windows Explorer
They might be ID3 2.4 tags which aren't supported in Windows 7. If that's the case, there's nothing wrong with the files, but rather their tags are invisible to Windows 7.

Orthodoctus got a reaction from Zyphera in Linus called adblock users scummy
I used, and still use AdBlock, but I whitelist the websites I visit frequently and enjoy. I don't find YouTube ads intrusive, long or generally annoying, but I noticed some people mention pop-ups which never occurred to me on YouTube.
-
Orthodoctus reacted to LinusTech in Linus called adblock users scummy
I see this thread is still going. Read the first few pages.
The word scummy was ill-chosen.
But the simple fact ramains that if everyone blocked the ads in my content Linus Tech Tips wouldn't exist. Period.
Those suggesting that I complain to Google... Do you think I can just call up Eric Schmidt and let him know I don't like the way they implement ads on YouTube? I laughed out loud.
YouTube isn't perfect but it's my best shot at running a viable business here so I can pay my employees and feed my family, so that's what I use. Those of you who opt to consume the content without supporting it, fine you're not "scummy". Come up with your own word for it

putting that CPU in the socket, makes you feel like you are doing surgery

Orthodoctus reacted to cae in Favorite moments when getting ready to build or building a new PC
Inhaling all those glorious toxic fumes from the motherboard for the first time. Also, when it's time to put the TIM on and the build goes from assembling LEGO to open heart surgery.
