I've just started to play F.E.A.R., it's some really good stuff. There aren't that many new releases that can grab my attention, so I just go back and see what good stuff the 2000-2010 decade had. And when I can't find anything interesting, I often go to myabandonware to find old weird and obscure games. Hell, to this day I still play Doom 3 more than anything.

Let's talk about dead GPUs, or other components
GoldSrc replied to Seelowe's topic in Graphics Cards
I've had an old GTS-250 just die on me, screen went black and that was it. I still have that card somewhere in a box, just because it was my first substantial upgrade from an 8400GS. And I'm pretty sure I still have that 8400GS somewhere, and I know that it still works lol. -
New gaming PC, issues with color banding on main monitor
GoldSrc replied to DigitalFirefly's topic in Troubleshooting
Any weird setting on the monitor itself? If the monitor looks bad regardless of where you connect it to, then you can be sure the problem is on the monitor itself. Pretty weird problem you have there. -
WTF? Isn't this crossing a line in what is copy-able?
GoldSrc replied to Somekindahoooman's topic in General Discussion
Wut? This has nothing to do with copyright or trademarks lol. Let's not go the way of apple and their stupid patent on rectangles with curved corners. -
GPU broken by a company that was SUPPOSE to fix it.
GoldSrc replied to NotSo's topic in General Discussion
What do you mean by "corroded" solder? Did it gave you a problem because of that? I've had plenty of cards through the years, and I find it hard to believe how an RTX 2070 would have crappy solder. I hope you get some photos and post them here, your story seems a bit fishy. -
satellite in geosynchronous orbit around the Moon
GoldSrc replied to RaputerXpert's topic in Off Topic
The reason we only see one side, is because the moon is close enough that the near side has more mass due to its proximity to the Earth. This mass causes the Earth to apply a torque to the moon that keeps it pointed towards us. Every time the moon tries to rotate away, the bulge steers it back towards the Earth, it's not really the orbit what causes that. Just like the moon creates a bulge on the Earth's oceans, the Earth also creates a bulge on the side of the moon closer to us. Take a spoon or any other long object and try to hold only one side, the side with more mass will be pulled towards the Earth. I may be wrong about some of that, but that's the basic principle. -
Why Apple Silicon is exciting even if you dislike Apple

This compatibility layer, is done with software or hardware? -
Why Apple Silicon is exciting even if you dislike Apple
GoldSrc replied to hookedonentflix's topic in General Discussion
ARM still has a very long way to go if it wants to kill x86, think of all the software used around the world that runs on x86. Sure, you could emulate x86 with ARM, but it wouldn't be free of bugs or have the same performance. This will help Apple and its products, but outside of it, nothing or not much will change for the rest of us. -
What's to stop YT from partnering anyone ever again?
GoldSrc replied to BroliviaWilde's topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
YouTube also shoots itself in the foot when it demonetizes some creators for the most lame thing, while allowing worse content to run ads. YouTube's logo should be the surprised pikachu face at this point lol. -
I've been playing around with Xbox, PS2 and PS3 emulators just to play games that never got to PC, I've had more fun with some of those old games than with "new" ones. Some for nostalgia, others to actually play them and have fun, and others just to see them at 1080p or even 2160p lol. A "new" game, does not always mean "fun game".

Does anyone else feel like there is no reason to upgrade?
GoldSrc replied to DarthSmartt's topic in General Discussion
I struggle with PS3 emulation with my current hardware and some games, the PS3 had some really good games, and emulation of the system can push most PC's way harder than PC games. If you don't plan to get into emulation and you can play most games just fine, then sure, I see no reason to upgrade at all. My last PC lasted me like 10 years before I upgraded anything lol. -
Do you think Linus should switch to Davinci resolve now
GoldSrc replied to Ankh Tech's topic in General Discussion
I don't care what they use, the videos are good and if it ain't broken don't fix it. Now, if only they went back to 16:9, the loss of vertical space is not worth it and sometimes they have problems fitting stuff in frame. Linus' videos are not movies, sometimes I try to scroll back up because I thought I cut the top part of the video lol. -
Won't happen, and even if it did, so much software designed with x86 in mind would have to be emulated with software, performance issues, bugs and glitches would pop up all the time. x86 will die one day, but it's still way too soon for that. That, or CPU's would need to have x86 hardware on them, which would make them too expensive. Don't worry, x86 is here to stay for a while. I've been hearing about how ARM would "kill x86" for years lol.
