GoldSrc got a reaction from Wictorian in Which is Scarier? Aliens or No Aliens
True, but such a god that does not violate the laws of physics, should be able to be measured or detected.
We can't see magnetic fields for example, other frequencies of light invisible to our eyes, or ionizing radiation, but we can detect their existence and measure them.
Such god would fall into the category of an advanced being, ruled and limited by the same laws that we are, and basically incapable of being the reason the universe exists and whose death will come with the heat death of the universe.

The existence of any god is not "probable", all claims about a god violate the laws of physics of this universe.
Physics, chemistry and biology do not.
So it's as simple as applying Occam's razor and go with the explanation that makes the least assumptions.

No aliens, but that would be practically impossible.
Planets like Earth have to exist, the laws of physics should work the same everywhere in the universe, and that means that the same chemistry that lead to the development of life and its inevitable evolution into all the living things we have on this planet, must be possible somewhere else.

Whether they are humanoid or not, that depends on the conditions of the planet their life evolved on.
They may have evolved on a planet with a really dim star, so whatever "eyes" they have are nothing like ours.
Or if they evolved somehow underground, they may have no need for "eyes", or they could "see" only in X-rays.

    Like Carl Sagan said:
"The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space."

PNY, their cards might not be the fanciest looking things or have all the bells and whistles that brands like ASUS or Gigabyte have, but the are a good brand.

GoldSrc got a reaction from Blademaster91 in Apple allegedly breaks camera functionality on iPhone 12 when the camera is replaced by an end user
We know apple do this, there isn't anything that apple or Louis could do differently while replacing a module.
The fact that apple matches each module to a phone is not for any "security concerns", but to stop people from repairing their old phone and forcing them to buy another one.
There's no need to go tinfoil hat here, because we know what apple does and we know apple is anti-repair.
Imagine if you weren't allowed to replace the sparkplugs or the ECU on your car on your own?

I agree. You should not repair your car, or even your home... the repair person, even from the manufacture, might be rogues and put secret spying stuff in them.
I don't even do my oil change in my car, I just buy a new car each time.

Because they independently verify claims made about products and give you the information to understand if there is an issue with your product. Everyone should know that. Hardware doesn't change over time like you think it does either? There's no point in constantly testing specific products years later, we know how hardware ages. Nothing is a surprise.

If you buy a damaged product that risk is on you, because you should be thinking about the risks involved. If a product is a lemon it gets reported quickly (Gamers Nexus reporting on the RTX 20 series artifacting bugs, for example). Very, very little is unknown with computer hardware in this day and age that needs to be over-reported on to say "hey this thing works just like it did six months ago." You need to have your own knowledge and judgement about your specific use-case if you're an outlier.

GoldSrc got a reaction from sub68 in What's with Linus' hate for Motion Blur?
Motion blur is hated because a) It's never done right in most games or b) you can't turn the damn thing off.
The same for chromatic aberration, it doesn't make a game "look good". Your eyes don't have chromatic aberration, most decent camera lenses don't have too much of it and it considered a bad quality lens if it has too much.
And add lens flares and lens dirt to the list, I hated that crap in BF3 when it came out and I still hate it lol.

It made me remember of the time GRID 2 added compression artifacts every time you had a collision, like, bruh? That crap made people think there was a problem with the graphics card.

I will always keep motion blur off, it's never done right, and if I ever turn it on, it's because it's done right and per object is some games, specially if it only applies to the wheels on racing games.

Didn't youtube removed the community CC option already?
You would have to ask them to burn them into the video, and I doubt they will accept that, their aspect ratio is already too short, removing even more vertical space would require them to go back to 16:9, which would be nice to have again.

GoldSrc reacted to LAwLz in Intel GPU Benchmarked on Geekbench
Some things to keep in mind:
A single benchmark is not reliable. You usually need several samples to get a good understanding of how it performs. GeekBench is a terrible GPU benchmark if you only look at the final score. For example, if we look at the particle physics test we see that the Xe MAX outperforms GT 1030 by about 60%. But for things like face detection the GT 1030 wins by ~17%. Benchmarking laptop components is quite hard because performance heavily relies on cooling and form factor. One laptop component in one laptop might perform great because of good cooling, while the same component might perform horribly in a different laptop with worse cooling. Without knowing which laptop the test was perform on, it will tell us very little about how good the individual component actually is. "Leaked benchmarks" like these can often be unreliable. For example they can be faked, or they might not be representative of the final product. The drivers are probably not entirely finalized. A lot can happen with that, especially on something like this which is very new.
All in all, I'd say this is interesting but doesn't really tell us anything meaningful about how it performs. Wait for third party reviews before making your minds up.

GoldSrc reacted to Trik'Stari in Movie Company Sues Pirates Who Used an Anonymous VPN (PIA)
    When will they learn?

You cannot, and will not, stop piracy. There is no real discussion on this. People like myself will find a way around your bullshit.

I try to be fair. If I find your content worthy, I will purchase it even after pirating it, if not, I will not.

End of fucking story. Either go commercial and make it "free", or piss off. I'd purchase the movie Greyhound, if it was available on a platform that was reasonable. But because it is not, I will not.

Fantastic movie, but whoever thought it would be a good idea to lock it down to Apple, is a freaking moron. Just sell me your goddamned product directly and stop trying to establish walled gardens that I have no interest in, I'd rather take my chances pirating, or just never see the content to begin with.

You  can make legal arguments all you want, but the reality is that this is a discussion of value. If your content isn't valuable enough to pay for, I'm not going to pay for it, and in this day and age of shitty content, I'm going to put time and effort (of which I have an abundance) into viewing it without paying for it, to save money (of which I have very little).

Essentially, they vastly overvalue their content, and are continually surprised by how many people don't care enough to pay.
