I had a laptop (Dell XPS 15) that deployed with me and has seen some rough times. To try to keep it longer I replaced the keyboard, battery, bought more RAM, but eventually it was time to let it go. So I did what any reasonable person would do and completely disassembled it, kept the HDD unplugged in a 3.5'' drive cage in my desktop and have the lid with all the stickers it has collected on a shelf at my desk.

I plan to continue using my X5650 and motherboard until it dies, and at that point I might frame it. Very special hardware to me.

Also my Focus 9000. Never selling this thing.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one emotinally attatched to my tech sometimes. I'm curious if people have the same thing as me,
I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop that I had since 2008. It has been through a lot with me (including my past 2 jobs too). I got it as a gift from my dad, at the time that machine was the hot stuff! It had a Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 which is notoriously known for failing. In this case, it has failed. I only keep it just becuase it went such a long way with me, I even used it for CNC machinery operation at one point. I'm emotionally attatched to it because of its quirky and odd design choices

Do you also have a story like mine? Please tell me

I still have my old laptop, a Compaq Presario, with an Athlon XP-M 2400+. It's basically useless at this point, but it doesn't take up much room and it still works fine (except the battery).

I have not. I do have both ram slots filled and only one extra stick of ram available. So I wouldnt be able to swap them both out but i can try that and see what happens.

Meowster reacted to lipowers in Had to write a blog post for class about how a media object influenced me, LTT was the obvious choice
Here's what I wrote for it:

About 3 years ago I started following a YouTube channel called Linus Tech Tips, or LTT. The channel covers everything tech related from computer hardware, like monitors, PC parts, keyboards, controllers, and mice, to the state of the economy surrounding large technology companies, like Apple, Intel, and AMD. At the time, I had a pretty basic understanding of computers. I knew it was a bunch of parts somehow put together in a box that lets me play video games and watch movies. I had grown up with my parents old iMac, (the transparent one, yikes) and had an Xbox to play games on, but never really had any interest in computers or technology until I got my own desktop PC and started watching videos about computers. LTT in particular focuses on new flagship hardware being released by tech companies and reviewing their performance. This makes for very shiny YouTube videos about very expensive products. I’ve seen dozens of videos about the new, fancy TVs that I won’t be buying anytime soon and PC parts my tuition could barely pay for. But the more I stared at the eye candy, the more I began to trickle down information holes and learn about how all this stuff worked. The more I learned about how all this stuff worked, the more I wanted some of my own. Fast forward to today, I have spent more money than I care to admit on PC components and accessories, along with other bits of technology. When I wanted a new pair of headphones, I found one of their videos that compared the industry leaders and gave evaluations of each. And, because YouTube loves to keep users on the platform, the more LTT I watch, the more I am recommended other tech channels, which show me more fancy expensive parts, which make me want to spend more money on other tech odds and ends. Fortunately, the result has not just been dumping money into electronics. Through the tech know-how I have learned over the years, I got a job in IT, and often find myself leaning on details from videos to solve problems. And in an increasingly digital age, it’s pretty useful to know how all this stuff works (sometimes).

Intel, AMD and Nvidia all release new SKUs every but that doesn't make genuinely good hardware outdated/bad.Also, most 11gen processors laptops have Intel xe graphics (Inside the price range) which itself is OK but the drivers are really bad which causes random crashes, not using all the capabilities of the hardware. That gives a bad first impression for your laptop.

Lol no. Depending on the coin, the market cap for a particular cyrpto is higher than Snoop Dog on 4/20. Not to mention there are more businesses today that accept payment from various cryptos than just a few short years ago. Plus, hedgies aren't shorting crypto. Unless of course you're RobinHood and you own most of DogeCoin and pretend to sell it to those who "buy" it on your platform...

Once it was a Dell XPS 17 something (2 years ago) Process went smoothly but had to force the process out of them
And the other time it was with my Galaxy S10e, it had damaged in shipping and the OLED display was shattered, they were all polite and Samsung apologized for the issue and sent the replacement and it arrived in 4 days

    Well damn...
Glad the kid got the Make-A-Wish but damn if this isn't the worst possible moment to try to build a gaming PC.
That being said... maybe this could be an LTT video idea? Build this poor kid a kickass, RBG-out-the-wazoo PC and ship it to the UK? It would also be some pretty positive PR, 2 birds with a stone?

June 1999. I was about 13 years old. Windows 95's Control Panel on our Packard Bell MultiMedia 9030.

April 2003. Unreal Tournament 2003, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Battlefield 1942. They take me back. I'm surprised I was using IrfanView, even back then (I still do, daily), and even more surprised that the logo/icon hasn't changed! I still use Winamp daily, too.

June 2003. Looks like I was messing around with Serious Samurize.

February 2004. KaZaA Lite, FlashFXP and Nero Burning ROM!

March 2004. A photo of my system, including Planet Quake! I was using Planet Unreal (and a map website along the lines of Nali Maps?) a lot more, back then. I never really got into Quake 3 Arena. Check out the size of the DVD player 😂

May 2004. MSN Messenger and Messenger Plus! Google's Froogle!

March 2005. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, a Logitech WingMan Gaming Mouse and my Sagem myX-7. Classics.
