We put a PC into our Diamond Play Button - and it's sooooo sick... and of course also a bit janky.

This is super cool, this must have been a tough "case" to design haha. Awesome job Alex, the result is incredible!

At 7:17 no one absolutely no one thought about shrink wrapping it with a non reflective 3M material and adjusting as needed afterwards? 🤦‍♀️

I can almost guarantee the professionals they did just that, or molded it, and a small possibility they used a 3/5 axis machine

Not really, shouldn't be any harder than taking a block of aluminum and making a computer from it, just needs CNC equipment, access/knowledge of CAD, and willingness/money to do it. Only unique part of this build is the crystal in the middle of the block that you need to go around, which would be easy as it was likely popped off before the CNC process (measure depth+ safety buffer).

Yea, I brute forced my way threw those 15 questions... They repeat the same 15 questions in a random order, don't know one? google, no timer just be the first x number. Not like a timer would be good either as someone like me would not know nor care about names about a device I will never use or have used in the past.

Congrats on the 10M subs. That's a really great build, super unique and totally LMG level. I wouldn't have expected you guys to do it any other different. Very nicely done!!!

 

You know the perfect complement piece would be to build a really nice stand/base for it... and hide a GPU inside of that. You could do it out of wood easy, carbon fiber or even marble if you can locate a guy that can cut the stuff.

Does the special paste do some magic that lets you solder aluminium in presence of oxygen?

This video is letterboxed. 😞 You used to upload your custom aspect ratio videos, but now I have these black bars on top and bottom (in addition to sides). It ruins the experience a bit.

Why did you cool down CPU through the heat pipes instead of making a protrusion on the enclosure aluminium and cooling it directly with the enclosure? So much of wasted space and a bit of wasted cooling performance.

 

About 3D scanning. You don't need to scan it. The shape is super simple. It's easier to measure and rebuild the model, than clearing up the scan.

 

About soldering to aluminium. You don't solder to aluminium. It's not connecting properly, it just barely sticks to it.

No, not with solder & irons computer people are used to.

 

An acetylene torch and silver solder, however... 😉 

(it's called hard-soldering and it's very common in the HVAC world)
