ThiccPug reacted to Bombastinator in MSI B450I Repeating issue requiring cmos clear constantly
Cmos stores changes made to the bios. So something that affects the bios is the problem.  Maybe a reflash?  I notice this is an AMD machine.  AMD often needs to have its bios maintained at the newest release.  Do you have maybe an old bios?

Well if Gigabyte's old DUAL BIOS documentation is anything to go by. The way it works is, if the bios fails on start up, on the next start up it will basically take the factory backup bios from the backup bios chip and flash it to the main bios chip, and then booting from it. That's about all I know, and the only "documentation"  I could find was this old cheesy gigabyte website from around the 2010's. https://www.gigabyte.com/microsite/55/tech_081226_dualbios.htm

RMA the ram but to answer your question.
It could and could not it's just not guaranteed, though for the most part it should work especially if they've got the same specs sheet.

chances are there's a lifetime warranty on it

yea, but the chances of it happening is not high
as long as you try to match it, should be fine

    i'd just RMA the ram

ThiccPug reacted to Zagna in What's VSOC MOS and where is it?
Yellow is VRM MOS and provides voltage for CPU cores, green is VSOC MOS and provides voltage for uncore, anything that isn't the cores.
    AFAIK

ThiccPug reacted to Kedohawyr in What is ASATA?
I'd say it's irrelevant. If someone wanted to split hairs they could say that the ASATA ports have slightly less latency but I think even a benchmarking program would struggle to detect the difference. The only reason I'd use those ports over the others (and personally I'd use the others first since they don't interfere with the M.2) is if you've managed to bottleneck the system on the chipset link and I don't think you're going to do that.

    It'll be fine.
It would be much better if you can get a rx580. They go fr around $100 on ebay/aliexpress with free international shipping.

it should be okay, though the 3400g has integrated graphics so i find it rare that people combine them with a dedicated gpu.
    But they're fine.
If your motherboard also allows you to use the igpu from the 3400 you can have your igpu focus on a second monitor that only has things like youtube on it, that should make it eaiser to play high demanding games.

Nope, mobos with bios flashback for AM4 boards will allow you to update the BIOS without CPU/RAM... similarly for some intel boards.

OP, unfortunately yours isn't one of them, you need CPU to update BIOS.
