Have to be cautious some thermal paste have conductive material in it, you don't want to bridge a connection between two things that aren't meant to be connected

tim81517lh got a reaction from amp88 in Computer Shuts Off Randomly (Please read)
I understand what you mean by your pc shuts off randomly after a while. I've had that problem before, but I honestly do not know for certain if I actually fixed the problem. Nevertheless, here are my suspicions:
Based on your previous problem with the power surge, there may have been a problem with not simply your graphics card but your PSU. It may also have screwed up the motherboard, but that is not for certain. With a PC shutting off randomly, the case is most likely due to the motherboard or PSU because it has to do with power delivery. Make sure you log the temperatures, CPU/GPU usage throughout your intense gaming up to the point of failure, this will help you diagnose the problem. If possible, try borrowing a powersupply from a friend of yours, or bring it into local computer dealers that may be able to help you with the problem. Replace/swap your psu to find out if it's a problem with the motherboard. IMO it's the most obvious method to go about diagnosing this problem of yours. Try running FurMark and Prime95 test both at once and each individually to determine if the problem is a CPU or GPU problem. Based on your experience, however, it might be CPU/mobo/PSU related. But FurMark will still help you draw lots of power from the PSU. -

I have the same problem, it may be due to Windows 10, so we just have to wait for them to patch it. I didn't have this problem the last time I used it a long time ago with Windows 8.1 (it was the same hardware).

I've had the Jaybird Bluebuds X for about 3 months and they have gone through some tough drops but still going strong with no visible scratches or damage to sound quality

Sorry if it came across a bit of an ass answer, but as for the whole "wireless" thing I was doing some searching after a previous post was put up a while ago and found these: http://www.plantronics.com/au/product/backbeat-go-2 They seem decent and not too pricey. If that isn't an option I'd give the Jaybirds a go and just hope they hold up for you.

For these programs you usually have to enable GPU accelaration or GPU compute.

tim81517lh reacted to ForsakenLive in How to control NZXT H440 Fans
You'd need an internal one, since the H440 doesn't have 5.25" drive bays.
NZXT is going to launch their GRID+ soon, it's a splitter that can control speed using the NZXT CAM software.
If you just want a good fan controller, that you can configure to work fully automated, even outside of windows, get this: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/13696/bus-271/Aquacomputer_Aquaero_5_LT_USB_Fan_Controller_Liquid_System_Controller_53095.html?tl=g47c17s422

They don't
There are quick and dirt cheap ways to control voltage on molex cables on tech forums, but they do require a bit of tinkering and tools. You only see the DIY parts for sale.
If you r budget allows, get a proper fan controller.

tim81517lh reacted to ForsakenLive in How to control NZXT H440 Fans
It's just a fan splitter, 3 pin fans are controlled by voltage, so you need a voltage controller on the Molex power cable (or is it Sata Power?) that goes in the hub.
-
tim81517lh reacted to NZXT-Eric in How to control NZXT H440 Fans
That is a fan hub not a fan controller. It's only designed to run at 100%. What you need to do is get some 3 pin voltage adapters for it to lower the incoming 12v to 7v which will lower the fan speeds and noise.

tim81517lh reacted to alpenwasser in Searching for 8+ bay NAS Solution
Honestly, if the unit will be with your parents and they don't
have the know-how to do maintenance themselves, I'd actually
recommend a prebuilt over a DIY NAS. I've built a server for
our home network, but if I wasn't living at home I'd likely
have gone a different route. My dad is not technically illiterate
(quite the opposite, he got me started with the whole PC building
thing), but he just doesn't have the time to learn all the
stuff he'd need to know to be able to maintain that machine.
With a prebuilt NAS, there is quite a bit less to worry about,
and even if things do go wrong, Synology has excellent support
from the stories I've read around here. At worst, you'd need
to show your parents how to open a port on the firewall so
that their support can remote into your NAS. And even if
they're not that techie, with a good enough how-to guide, that
should be feasible I'd say.

tim81517lh reacted to ForsakenLive in Searching for 8+ bay NAS Solution
Get a decent case and make a basic PC, install FreeNAS or other similar solution and you are good to go. It's going to be cheaper than a 8bay sinology.

tim81517lh reacted to alpenwasser in Searching for 8+ bay NAS Solution
I'm not too familiar with QNAP's products, but presumably they
should have products that fit your needs as well.
For Synology, you could either go with a full-blown 8bay unit,
or you could buy a smaller unit plus an expansion unit. I'd
personally lean towards the single larger unit personally.
8-bay unit
5-bay
5-bay expansion unit
The expansion unit is compatible with not just the 5-bay unit,
check the specs for a full list, you don't necessarily need
to go with 5+5. Though my recommendation would be the 8bay
probably, as said.
Information about website hosting on Synology units.
Information on cloud services on Synology
As mentioned, QNAP probably have similar units and capabilities,
but I'm not very familiar with their product lines.

tim81517lh got a reaction from FloGer in No more unboxings in Linus Tech Tips in 2014?
No. Please keep the unboxings.
There are lots of products that I have never heard before that you've introduced to me through unboxing.
The brief overview is very informational and certainly much more interesting than something like an article. As a person that doesn't have much time to browse the news and rumors on new tech product releases, you bring me unique products that I have never heard before.
I know there are other sources of information, but I prefer this.
The unboxings doesn't have to be that long and does not require an in depth review, but I do enjoy and rely on your channel as a source of new and fresh products.
So please, keep the unboxings.

tim81517lh reacted to TechSage in No more unboxings in Linus Tech Tips in 2014?
Keep the unboxings, I like when you mess up during a video, it makes the unboxing special, otherwise you'd be a robot. I always watch your unboxings because there is humor AND information
