For gaming, consider upgrading your RAM to at least 8 GB, your GPU to something a little more recent, also if you have any budget left, maybe CPU upgrade to something like an i5 or i7.

Great wall PSU? Hmm. Sounds sketcy, upgrade that along with the RAM first.

TechnoTony reacted to LinusTech in I think LTT makes up a majority of Vessel views...
IT's late and I'm both hungry and tired from shooting Scrapyard Wars (which by the way is an LTT series and will be airing ad-supported on YouTube very soon for your viewing pleasure).

But there are a few points to address and you've already been patient enough.

I said LMG content would always be free. This was poor wording on my part. There has always been content produced by me and my team that was not necessarily available on a free platform like YouTube.

These "The Boost" videos that we make on contract as a sales training resource for Intel, for example:

In much the same way, Vessel has contracted LMG the production company to create an original series for their platform. They bankrolled the whole thing, giving us an opportunity to make something that otherwise would have been too costly, and per the licensing agreement they own the right to exploit this content. It's their show until such time as they decide it's not anymore.

We played more of a "production company" role in this than we're accustomed to.

This could, and SHOULD have been communicated better, and for that I'm sorry. The community should have heard about this from us FIRST, and not from a random email newsletter, but I've been (and so has the whole team) absolutely busting ass to not only get Nerd Sports produced, but also make sure that we're keeping up with everything else that we've got going on including not having missed a single day of LTT uploads for something like 5 years..

With that said, quantity isn't everything, and I've noticed that not everyone has appreciated the LTT content as much as usual lately, but it's hard for me to tell if that's because they don't like our new direction (fewer reviews, and more exploratory or experimental videos) or if they just saw a video or two they didn't like and raised hell in the comment section - it wouldn't be the first time.. And I will say, too, that honestly if a couple of the videos felt rushed then it's probably because they were.. HOWEVER, the primary reason for the rushed videos was  the entire week we're taking off this week to film Scrapyard Wars Season 4, which will be premiering on Vessel sometime in the next few weeks or so, followed by a release on YouTube 1 week later, which is the standard agreement for OUR content that is paid for by LMG or our sponsors.

Nerd Sports was shot 40% during evenings and weekends with employees taking time in lieu later on when we hire some more staff or when things slow down a little. We were careful to avoid disrupting any of our other commitments because imo you guys deserve the best we can deliver.

Which is another point that was brought up in this thread - "How will LMG keep its commitment to maintain the pace and quality of the other content if they're making Nerd Sports or other contractual content?"

    We couldn't. We're hiring.

I've never shied away from investing in more staff or better equipment or a better facility to make sure that we're doing our best for ourselves, each other, our sponsors and our viewers. If we play our cards right, absolutely everyone wins.

Nerd Sports has been a fantastic learning experience for us, and whether we continue the series with Vessel, create other completely different web series in the future, or just say "fudge it" and flip burgers from now on, we'll be able to do those things better than we could have without having done this.

So bottom line is this. I screwed up the way I communicated "LMG content", which was meant to be content funded BY Linus Media Group rather than content funded entirely by and licensed to a 3rd party, and I screwed up in a MUCH bigger way the LACK of communication about this project. Sorry guys.

LSI 9211 IT mode, tons on ebay for cheap.

Edit: Also an HBA has no RAID support at all so none will have RAID 5, the NAS software will do that or you actually want a RAID card but the price for a decent one isn't at the costs you have listed.

It is worse than if it were on a native 1080p monitor, but it's not really horrible as many people seem to think.

I haven't really had any issues with my MSI 390x. Just as well, people seem to like recommending the Sapphire/MSI 390. But if you can snag a good deal on a 290x with a nice aftermarker cooler I don't see why not.

Just a general reference for "how much wattage do I need" questions that are filling the forum. Check these and you'll have a general idea of where to start for shopping for a power supply, and questions can be diverted from "how many watts do I need" to a much more specific "what power supply should I get within my budget that will power a system that needs XXX watts"

Briefing on buying a quality power supply:

Shopping for a power supply is not all about wattage. As much as your mind or people might make it seem like so, it's not. It's about multiple factors, however the most important things are the quality of the PSU and the amps on the 12V rail. Not just watts. This is why the question of "how many watts of a PSU do I need" is becoming drowned out nowadays, because it's no longer a large variable

    Info on PSU quality:

Info on PSU 12V rail amps:

    On with the numbers!
Again, These numbers are established assuming you are using a quality power supply. The overclocks are also based on heavy overclocking, including overvolting.

Another way you could get a rough estimate on your own, is take the TDP of the CPU + GPU(s) and add 100W for other components. This should give you a rough estimate of the maximum power draw your PC will require at stock clock speeds.

Use these numbers when shopping for a power supply, but if you're not sure of specifically what model to get, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking! Create a thread in this section that contains your location (country is fine), preferred store or retailer (if any), and your budget. Our community members will be happy to assist you find a good quality power supply that will be quiet, efficient, and reliable.

Hope this reference guide was of help to you if you're looking to get a new PSU to upgrade or for a build. If there's anything that you feel can be added to this, or if you have any questions then let myself know. This thread is a work in progress and I'll do my best to keep working on it so leave suggestions!   Thanks for looking!

You pretty much have 3 options:
The be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 is the one you're most likely to go for, it kicks ass, and a lot of people think it looks bitchin'. It is black, quiet, and should do a fine job of keeping your 4690K cool. The Noctua NH-D15 is pretty much the best air cooler on the market. It's big, a lot of people think it's ugly (I think it looks kinda cool), it's one of the best coolers out there. It also has the Noctua quality along with it, and is a breeze to install (unlike the Dark Rock Pro 3, see the link below for the LTT review on it). The Cryorig R1 Ultimate is kind of the middleground between the two. I believe it performs better than the be quiet!, but not as good as the Noctua. It does look awesome, though.  For your criteria, the Dark Rock Pro 3 is probably your best bet.

If it's gaming go for an i3 with a 280 instead because i3 has better core performance and most games won't utilize 6 weaker cores like the 6300 also AMD budget motherboards are generally bad while Intel's cheaper motherboards are still decent also a 280 is cheaper than a 960 has more Vram and is equal and slightly better

You can get a 7200RPM 1TB WD Blue for around $55 USD or a 7200RPM 1TB Seagate Barracude for $50 USD, both are good choices, whichever company you prefer...
(I live in Canada so its like $60 here)

I believe the Hyper X is a little more comfortable while the M40x sound a little better. The HyperX probably has a bit more bass in its sound signature. Of course, it also has a mic because it's a headset.

You know, sometimes in life, you can't decide but the reality is you'll probably be happy with either one.

WAIT HOLD UP. WE DONT WANT LINUS'S PERSONAL PC. The case has a lot of meaning to him guys. It was a gift from his wife. I believe it was the first gift from her too.
EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys! Hopefully Linus or someone from LMG will read this and this will make Linus keep his build. Even if the goal of 100k is made we should convince Linus to do another build maybe, with signatures from the whole LMG family and maybe even his wife. This would let Linus keep the build he has with the special case his wife gave him. Besides, his personal PC would be more special to him than us.
