if the thermal paste has dried, then you may need to use the iso first to get the thermal paste to soften

70% is fine. It's recommended to use a lint-free cloth however. If you don't have one, coffee filters are an excellent substitute.

All you have to do to wipe off the old paste is dab the alcohol on the cloth and rub it off. That's it. Repeat as necessary until the surfaces look clean enough.

as long as it doesn't move after you tighten it down, you should be fine, thermal paste doesn't really bubble like putting on a screen protector, once you tighten it down all the paste will ooze into the right places, that's why you don't really NEED to spread it out, but depending on the manufacturer, they do sometimes recommend it.
Personally i put a dollop on the center (this is the scientific term) and then put it on and fasten it down.

alcohol will evaporate almost instantly, by the time you turn around to grab your parts, it'll be gone. while it is recommended to use lint free wipes, i have used paper towels countless times, they work just fine, just make sure you have some canned air nearby to blow it off afterwards.

Yes, but rubbing alcohol tends to dry really fast.

David_Kwan got a reaction from Taintedmind in SSD for gaming and Storage suggestions?
    Hi guys,
So I have a 860 evo 500gb SSD right now as my game drive, but it is slowly but surely filling up and when the time comes I will need a new SSD.
Are there any SSD's I should look out for in case my 500gb finally fills up?

    I'm looking for a 1TB or 2TB drive.
There's a bunch of things I don't understand like QLC, TLC differences. Is there a better one of the two? And all that.
Of course I'll take the one that should age better over any other as I wish to keep it over the years.

(I got the 860 Evo at first because of all the good reviews it has.)

Also, should I consider an m.2 ssd?
I have 4 sata slots and 2 asata slots. As I have a 970 Evo plus for my boot drive, occupying the first m.2 slot makes the 2 asata slots not useable.(According to the mobo manual)
So if I get a m.2 ssd for my second m.2 slot I won't be able to add anymore HDDs or SSDs as it will render 2 sata slots not useable.

FYI 2 of the 6 slots is used up by my 500gb SSD and a 2tb HDD.

    Thanks in advance!

The 212 Evo is overpriced, the black edition on the other hand is a fine successor.

The DRP4 and the NH-D15 are serious air coolers, contenders with high end water coolers. The U12A is also pretty beefy, it would allow for a high overclock.

Try running it through another encoder first. The free version of Resolve might have limitation of using video files without audio tracks. So try using something like Handbrake first and then Resolve. Handbrake doesn't take that much off quality.

PS. I hope you have original creators permission to edit/use their video. There's reason why YT doesn't allow to download videos by default.

SLC- Single layer cell, this means that each cells store 1 charge and thereby one bit, this is the fastest and most rugged class, yet also the least cost efficient and most space hungry

MLC- Multilayered cell or Dual layered cell, each cell can store 2 bits, but each read/write cycle in which both bits are stored is twice as hard as on SLC basically a full R/W cycle is with MLC is like 2 with SLC, but it each cell consumes about as much space as an SLC cell. Also it takes more time to use both layers as the upper most layer must be filled before the bottom most layer can be utilized at full capacity, although SSDs can treat MLC as SLC, for quick storage and compact the second bit in later, think of it as climbing bunk beds or fitting people into the back seat of a car.

TLC- Triple layered cell, same as MLC except with the potential to 3 bits instead of 2, and each full read and write cycle (in which all three bits layers have bits) is like 3 SLC cycles.

QLC MLC with twice the layers, thereby it wears out twice as fast when the SSD is used to capacity, and as the SSD is filled it will tend to get slower as more of the SSD is filled, this is also one of the cheapest technologies as it requires fewer chips to provide the same amount of storage and thereby less silicon.

I hope this helps! or you could just ignore me and watch the video......

In most cases with such diverse hardware in the gaming industry you have to manually download the correct driver. most likely windows has a driver that will get it working, just not perfect or with some features missing.

So I have finished my first ever PC build and I have to say it was an amazing experience!
I find myself lucky that there were no major issues when building it.

Though there were some things that made me anxious. First I tried to do a test to see if the components were working.
First was the mobo, cpu and ram installed. But when I booted it up there was nothing showing on the screen. Then I went to look online and found out I was an idiot and that my 2600 has no graphics...

Since everything lit up and the cpu cooler worked I proceeded to test the system with the gpu installed. But when I tested it there was no signal on the monitor(using display port from gpu to monitor.).
So I kind of panicked a little and tried seeing if everything was in order. Nothing was wrong, cables all ok. So I just decided to boot it up again but this time having the Windows 10 USB installer plugged in.

And it worked! I don't know any technical reason as to why I wasn't getting anything on screen before so please let me know. (Driver issues?)

And after updating BIOS, installing Nvidia Drivers and having Windows Update handle the other drivers my PC was ready.

Did some overclocking of the gpu and got it to +70 core and +1000 memory. I think I can push it a little more but since I could play Destiny 2 and The Division 2 with no problems I'll just leave it as is for now.
Destiny 2 was played in Ultra settings and I got 144+fps.

All in all I am really glad I decided to build my own PC!

2pin, 3pin, and molex powered fans all use dc. 4pin pwm fans can also be controlled with dc but that's not the point of pwm fans.
The cpu_opt might share the same fan settings as the cpu_fan header or it might not. You can check the available settings to be sure. Whichever you prefer is up to you and either is fine as long as your temps are kept in check.
