TrainNutter reacted to tishous in New build 2021 - £1,200 budget
The thing is, if you are mainly gaming, overclocking a 4th gen Ryzen CPU usually isn't worth it because you get better performance letting the chip boost to what it can (about 4.8ghz) in lightly threaded workloads such as gaming.

I'm not sure AMD will release a 5800, since they didn't release a Ryzen 7 3800, so you might be waiting a while lol. In the mean time you would have to get a temporary cooler. As long as you don't overclock, you could go with a very budget option like a Hyper 212 Evo or something like that.

If you go with a Ryzen 5 5600x (or if you're talking about the 5600 that will more than likely be released sometime soon) then you will get an included cooler, but if you go with the 5800x, then you'll need to buy an aftermarket cooler. In your case, I would go with the 5800x because of the video editing, which means you'll need a cooler. If you want nice aesthetics, perhaps a 240mm Corsair AIO would be a fitting option.

TrainNutter reacted to tishous in 550W PSU and an RTX3060Ti?
You would be fine putting a 3060ti with a 550W PSU. Nvidia say a higher number than what is needed because there are too many different types of systems. For example, someone could be running a Threadripper 3990x (TDP of 280W) so it's a way of protecting themselves from lawsuits etc.

TrainNutter reacted to nick name in RAM frequency?
What you ideally want to do is find a kit of the cheapest Samsung b-die kit. It isn't just clock speeds but timings that matter. Hynix kits work a lot better now with Ryzen, but they don't come close to what a Samsung b-die kit can do. So just do lot's of comparisons to find yourself the best deal, but focus your efforts on finding a Samsung b-die kit. Shop for used if you want to find the best deal. The odds of RAM going bad is pretty darn low.

TrainNutter reacted to Boomwebsearch in Vid Editing CPU Needed
I am sure that the next generation of CPUs will be a lot more efficient and more powerful although if you do not need a CPU immediately you might want to consider waiting for the release of new CPUs.
The intel core I5 8400 might be more efficient for certain computing tasks although if you are looking for better performance then I the Ryzen CPU would be the one to choose as it has more computational power due to having a different base clock (higher), CPU architecture, and more threads when being compared to the Intel model of CPU.

2600 will be faster in most video editing tasks.

I would get Ryzen personally, you get 6 more threads over the i5-8400.
