PCIe 3x4 or 4x4 NVMe SSD?

TrainNutter

Hi!

For my next system im considering going with an M.2 4.0x4. The system will include have an RTX3060Ti and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X.

I use my current one (and the next one) for light video editing, gaming, and flight simulator. Storage will keep my video archive on it as well

Is there any point in using a PCIe 4x4 SSD?

Not right now. Esp since (with one or two exceptions) most Gen 4 drives perform no different in real world use. Controllers that can actually handle the bandwidth well are only just now starting to hit the market.

Yea, it's just not worth it rn, just get a good 3X4 plus numbers are numbers. At these speeds latency is more important. 3X4 is faster than most people could reasonably. Even for a boot drive. We haven't harnessed the speed of 4X4 yet.

Zen 3 = Ryzen 5000 because ryzen 4000 got skipped and ryzen 2000 is zen+
